While originally slated for an October release, Valve's Chet Faliszek has sadly confirmed that the Counter-Strike: GO beta has been delayed to an unknown date. The news comes from an interview between Faliszek and ESEA News.
In the interview, Faliszek announced that the initial CS: GO beta will include 10,000 participants and will grow in steps based on feedback. Right now, the development team is factoring in feedback from Counter-Strike 1.6 players and that's what's causing the delay.
The team will be using the CS: GO beta less as a way to test balance and more as a way to test crashes so that there's none of them when the final game hits. But, as there is no start date for the beta yet, there's also no end date. By the end of the beta, everyone will be playing the full game and Valve will decide at a point when they'll just choose to release it officially.
Aside from the beta delay, Faliszek also unveiled a few new details surround CS: GO including new modes, maps, and features. For example, there will be several new modes added in after the game launches like zombie mode and deathmatch. Plus, there are eight brand new maps being added specifically for Gun Game. These eight maps will be smaller than classic maps to facilitate the fast-paced gameplay in Gun Game. CS: GO will also have a customizable cross hair.
Like Ronald "Rambo" Kim said in the interview, I'm glad that Valve is taking the time to integrate pro gamer feedback in to the game before they release it to the public via beta. Hopefully Valve can iron out the last few kinks and we'll be able to get our hands on CS: GO sooner rather than later.

At least Valve is willing to beta test their game unlike most developers these days. Even better, Valve is willing to delay the testing to further improve the testing quality.
