Netflix Still Unsure Whether To Offer Video Games

Netflix Adds Kinect Support

Netflix, the ubiquitous streamer and sender of movies, is considering offering games. In fact, a month or so ago, they announced that they were going to add games to their service when they split into two services, Netflix and Qwikster... but then they decided not to split. But they still might offer games. It's really up in the air right now.

"We have yet to decide whether or not to offer video game discs," Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said. "The decision will have little financial impact either way."

Speaking of financial impact, since the Qwikster announcement last month, Netflix has been in a bit of a free fall when it comes to stock prices. Just the other day, Netflix's stock fell 37 percent. Netflix stock is down a total of 75 percent from its high... maybe the fat lady isn't singing on Netflix quite yet, but she's warming up her voice. Maybe you should make up your mind, Netflix? It would make stockholders feel a lot better.

Would Netflix offering games have any effect on you at atll? Would you be more likely to subscribe to a game-and-movie service? Should Gamefly be worried? Let us know in our comments section below.

Netflix's CEO proves once again that he is unfit for the job.

"We have yet to decide whether or not to offer video game discs," Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said. "The decision will have little financial impact either way."

Yeah adding video games would bring in new customers or have streaming only subscribers consider upgrading their plan. The fact that there are companies that only send video games proves that there is a market. Netflix is in trouble if this Rtard stays as CEO.

Yes if they dont mail unreadable disks gamefly had that problem and they need to update their library

In Other news EA has done it again they screw over their own customers "ps3 version of BF3 was supposed to come with the hit BF1943"
but yet again EA didnt tell their customers "oh we stopped shipping BF1943 with BF3 due to the fact everybody must have it by now"

As far as i know BF3 is tanking lil by lil (was gonna preorder this or MW3 thank god i waited)

EA made up my mind on which game im picking up

I've been a NETFLIX customer for many years and i am VERY satisfied with their service! I WAS a GAMEFLY subscriber but they had too many shipping delays and problems! Now i'm stuck using BLOCKBUSTER so me and my daughter can get video games and i must say that the game selection stinks! BLOCKBUSTER has a small game library and plus my daughter wants to play DS + 3DS games which BLOCKBUSTER doesn't rent! If my NETFLIX service added video games they would rule both movie + video games rental services!! PS Someone actually mentioned REDBOX?!?! Are you crazy?!?!?! you get charged for every day you have it out and you would go broke renting all the games us gamers want to play!!!

if netflix is still unsure, they must have their heads trapped someplace dark and stinky.

Personally, I only use Netflix for streaming, but I would certainly add disc service if video games were included. I have used Blockbusters delivery service, and I was disappointed with the availability of games. It would be months after the commercial release of a game before it would be available to be mailed to my home. Why? No clue personally. I also like the idea of a dowloanded drm game.

Nope, netflix crewed me over when I canceled by not giving me a refund or allowing me to stream for the rest of the month that I PAYED for. I will never go back to that service.

What I think would be awesome is if there was a way they could offer downloads of full games as rentals. Like xbox live and psn does with movie rentals. You could order the game just like you do movies from netflix, and you get the game for a week, then your rental expires, you delete the game, freeing up your spot for another rental. Netflix could give you a temp license for the game so you can play it during your rental. And if you still wanted to play the same game just renew your rental license.

If Netflix's prices are lower than GameFly's rental prices, then hell yeah they should start renting games.

I would absolutely offer games if I were Netflix. I used to have GameFly, and while I loved the ability to get and keep games for as long as I wanted, and I loved the selection offered, their service SUCKS. I have been with Netflix for almost 2 years now, and I have never had a problem getting disks from them where I used to always have major issues with GameFly. Netflix Customer Service is great, GameFly... Good luck with that. I also know that a large number of people currently have both GameFly AND Netflix and would welcome the opportunity to be able to drop the additional cost of the GameFly subscription in favor of a small surcharge from Netflix to get the same service. Plus, Netflix would be opening themselves to a much larger market of subscribers. This move makes fiscal sense any way that you look at it for Netflix. They have to do something to bring back some of the subscribers they lost.

I believe it would be a very practical decision for Netflix to offer game discs considering the already trumped "Blockbuster" video stores. So why not give it a go and compete against "GameFly" and just swallow them up like they're slowly doing across the industry ?

If Netflix went to games i would switch from gamefly, Dont get me wrong i love gamefly but the turn around time for receiving games is unreliable. i am always reporting shipping problems just so gamefly can send me a new game before i even mail off my old one just so i can have something to play without waiting 3-6 days. with Netflix my turn around time was only a day.. Comeon Netflix give me a reason to stream my 360 again!!
