GTA 5 Rumor Mill: Will Grand Theft Auto 5 Be In San Andreas Or On The Moon?

GTA 5 was announced this morning via rocking splash page on RockstarGames.com. Saying we don't know much about it is an understatement. Rockstar Games released fours words: Grand Theft Auto Five. That's it. Just because we don't know anything about the game doesn't mean we won't speculate like crazy.

I have secured my tin foil hat and am ready to talk GTA 5 rumors. My theory is GTA V will take place in San Andreas.

Exhibit A. Los Angeles is the best city in the entire world. Exhbit B. The font and color of the word five resembles a $5 bill. San Andreas is so money. Exhibit C. The Hot Coffee scandal that shook the very foundation of this great nation took place in San Andreas. America needs more coffee! Exhibit D: Thanks to LA Noire, Rockstar already has a realistic mock-up of Los Angeles to work with. Exhibit E: When I google "GTA 5" the first search result takes me to Rockstargames.com/SanAndreas.

GTA: San Andreas came out back in 2004 for the PS2, where it holds the title of best selling PS2 game. Set in the 1992, GTA:SA featured the streets of LA, the twists and turns of SF and the lights of Vegas. Now picture that setting with next-gen graphics in glorious 1080p exactly 10 years later, 2012. We already know Rockstar likes to celebrate the 10th anniversary with things, like with the iOS version of GTA 3.

Back in March there were rumors Rockstar was casting voice actors for GTA 5. One of the characters they were said to be looking for was obsessed with "being a Hollywood celebrity." I live in LA, there are tons of girls here who fit that bill!

That's my theory and I'm sticking it to it. Everyone around the G4 offices has their own take on the next GTA. Keep reading to see what the staff of G4, Aots and X-Play think.

Stephen Johnson: TheFeed Editor

Since GTA games have already taken place in cities all over the country, I predict the “hook” of the next GTA won’t be the location. Instead, it will Time. I’d like to see a game that starts in the mid 1970s, and continues through the 1980s, 1990s to the present. The city's template doesn’t matter as much. Either that, or the entire game will be set in Bismark, North Dakota, my favorite capitol city and by far my favorite state.

Blain Howard: X-Play Content Executive

I TOTALLY hear that it is going to be first person.

Becky Jutzi: SEO Analyst

The location will be Las Vegas and it will entwine with the Casinos and brothels. The city of sin is a perfect match for the GTA ensemble. I can’t wait to see the Vegas strip!

JP Shub: X-Play Producer

I hear the guns have all been replaced with walkie talkies.

Moye Ishimoto: AOTS Web Team

I speculate that this game will have lots of cars. I hope that this game actually takes place in the early 1900’s and features the Ford Model T.

Rob Juster: The Big Boss

I guarantee that the control scheme will still suck.

Jake Gaskill: Previews Editor

  1. San Andreas/Mexico (in place of Vegas) (Get the most out of those LA Noire/Red Dead assets)
  2. D.C. – Rockstar taking the issue of game violence to Washington would be kind of great
  3. Chicago – Just because we haven’t seen it before

Antonio Hernadez: Social Media Team

There will still be a ridiculous amount of cutscenes.

Mike D'Alonzo: Managing Editor of New Media

It's going to take place on the moon, a thousand years from now...and there will still be angry bikers in it.

Matt Keil: X-Play Producer

I just want planes back. But I guess that’s what Saints Row is for.

Jacklin Maisyan: Social Media Team

I heard that the game’s main character will be totally naked. The entire time.

So there you have it, our wonderfully misinformed opinions. I imagine we'll know much more when Rockstar release the first GTA V trailer next week, November 2. Until then, where do you think GTA 5 will take place?

Tips? Suggestions? Find me on Twitter.

There's on thing I'd like to see and only rockstar can deliver.

An open world with no borders.

    A globe, if you will.

The recent trailer that was released shows way too many aspects of san andreas, such as the highway which included road signs that could be readm one of which said Downtown Little Souel, a town that was in san andreas, the hydro jet, the tall building in the middle of los santos etc. I am pretty confident the location will be in san andreas especialy with the success GTA SA brought to rockstar. I am hoping it will be san andreas which had so much more replay value than that of GTA 4. Im hoping this will be the next generation san andreas. Only time will tell though!

I feel, as if GTA has always been fun regardless of location, but it finally Needs to hit a new home lIke the South.
I think GTA 5 will hit Atlanta, Ga or Georgia, Because it is basically the Booming 2000- present in the South, plus music & money is what Georgia and GTA should mix, because there are a good and bad side to every city... and that goes internationally. I got Five on it!!!!

If you're looking for a great place for unchecked violence and murder, come to my hometown of lovely Detroit, MI! We have all the seasons! And plenty of empty homes to blows up or vandalize! Plus if you want a plethora of cars, this is where it all started. Hookers walking around no matter the time of day? CHECK! (not that I know personally) Racist people saying racist things? CHECK! Legit/not-legit gun shops? CHECK! This is a dream world for Rockstar!

As far as locations and time periods are concerned, Rockstar does not have a formula for GTA. It may appear like that. There is a certain level of predictability in the series. One of which being that if they go straight for a number and not a city, that you will be experiencing something very new. Something that changes the way we play. If this were titled GTA IV followed by some city name, for instance, you could guess you are going to be playing the previous game in the series with some minor game play changes and major aesthetic changes. For this installment they chose to end with V. To me this signifies, as many people speculate, a relatively new experience. As for the V looking like money, one of my guesses is that money will play a more active roll in the game. Yes, we have earned lots of the stuff in previous games in the series but our involvement with it has been mostly passive. After a few hours of game play, money usually becomes an afterthought. I imagine there will be more things to purchase. Things that could make everyone's experience a bit more unique. From property to clothing to who knows what else. To feel like you are vested in the game's world instead of interacting with an unchanging world where all of your "big" choices are predetermined. So I guess I'm hoping to have more control over what life I want for my character. Obviously within reason. But if I pull a job for someone worth $$$$$$ then I would like to choose whether to give them their money or not. I could go on forever.
What I want to see: (aside from the usual wishes...new cars, location etc.)
    1. more control over my destiny- To choose what I want to do in a mission and have those decisions impact what happens next. Those crappy little choose your story books do a better job than I've seen in many games that claim to do the same
2.better use of my in-game cash- Everything from cars to property. Maybe even some businesses. Maybe I wanna be a franchisee then start using my store as a front. IDK
3.real cars-but the licenses I'm sure would take enough out of the budget that GTA would be left all sparse and sad like Drive San Francisco. Plus from what I understand, auto manufactures aren't huge on the idea of having their products stolen. In reality or fiction.
    4. Some long, drawn out, lame idea for incorporating some SUPER DOPE TYTE WICKED SHYTZ I saw in this alien/zombie/cowboy game where gravity can be manipulated at will and I can visit any time in all the world because god knows how rad it would be if I could drive a car up a T-rex ass and blow it up from the inside with the nuke I stole from ze Germans. Everyone knows you can't carry a nuke by hand. And we don't want to be stupid about it. I want it to feel real. Removing gravity rectifies that for me.

Las vegas would be awesome... therefore we could gamble, and have a lot of fun places to go and have fun.... thats better than having a lot of buildings with no freaking front door..

I was with Outcast (p1) until he said "outdoorsy feel". Screw that homie. Will we be slingin people off of four wheelers? Shooting deer? I'd MUCH rather shoot a hooker that just finished taking my money. As for GTA5 speculation, I think it should take place down here in the Dirty Souf. There is ansolutely no question that the game is going to shock and/or disturb. Carjackings take place down here like every thirty seconds or something. It should be either in New Orleans, or my home, Atlanta. And it should feature night clubs you can buy and a real estate side, much like San Andreas. But you can customize features of the club and actually make big money. Not like Ballad of Gay Tony where all you did was throw people out and run around town getting sandwiches and dumb stuff like that. If the character gets laid again, I'ma buy this one on release day.

I saw Vegas, Mexico, and Los Angeles. They are going to stuff as much as they can into this game. Six disc on Xbox and still one on PS3.
