The first round in the epic confrontation between shooters was fired today with the launch of Battlefield 3. The Xbox 360 version of the game comes with an optional download for a High Res texture pack. You may ask: should I buy the Battlefield 3 High Res texture pack? We went ahead and looked at the game both with and without the pack installed to determine if you really need it. Keep your eyes on the High Res side to really see the difference, especially in the outdoors segments.

You can tell when hes draging the guy at around 5:00 in and when you look on the floor you see the light and it looks alot better

Go to 5:15. And put it on full screen. And look at the light beaming into the room. PS3 is so much better.

It's already known. Check out the comparisons at Lens of Truth. As well as some still images. 360 has slightly sharper-more detailed textures (barely), the PS3 has more aggressive HDR lighting, which on other sites people complain about, saying the HDR was too over-done on the PS3...kind of blinding. I personally like stronger HDR effects myself, so it's a matter of preference. I'll probably get it for PS3, since I like only having one disc to worry about, although, all my shooter friends are on 360...hmmm...toss up.

Very disappointed with y'all at G4... I don't even own an xbox and even I know the hi res disc is free... I mean really??? Does someone really dislike this game that much? This should be edited as soon as possible as it is a major factor with the xbox version. This video does not do the hi res install justice, I've seen it live and the difference is actually very noticeable. Again people, THE HI RES INSTALL IS FREE! I thought you were better than this G4.... I guess not .

WIthout the texture pack xbox graphics are very blurry and sub pare. but with the pack you can tell an extreme differnce, just look at a wall, or the ground and its 300 times better ground looking graphics ;) dirt in HD. but all the sides of the houses are blurry without it. makes long distance sniping harder, just install it asap!

Consoles are generally more popular and cheaper systems therefore they get more attention . . If you want a PC review look online . . with your PC

If you want true comparisons there's this cool site called lensoftruth.com and they have this Head2Head section where they do some of the best damn game comparisons I have ever seen.
Can't wait to get this game for sure.

Are you going to review the PC version of Battlefield 3 separately? According to several websites already that the PC version is the best version or are you going to lump it together with the review of the console versions and mention little information about it like that half-assed job that happened with the Crysis 2 review? Well, what's it going to be?
