Mark Hamill Not Joking -- Officially Retires From Doing The Joker

Batman: Arkham City Joker

Mark Hamill said a while back that his performance in Batman: Arkham City would be his last as the Joker. Now, as a Batman fan, I hoped that he wasn't serious - he's the Joker that I grew up with, and I think he's the best one. Well, as much as it pains me to admit, it looks like he was indeed serious. Hamill took to his Twitter to say his goodbye to the Clown Prince of Crime.

"Hello/Goodbye Joker! I've enjoyed every minute behind the wheel of the Crown Prince's crazy car- I'm going to miss him more than I can say!!"

As for who can fill his clown shoes, I'm completely at a loss. Maybe you guys have some ideas? Share them with us in the comments section below.

And to sum up my feelings, I'll just leave you with this (meta, huh?):

John Di Maggio might be a decent choice.

The world at a fan loss..as Mark says goodbye in perhaps the best way possible.. if you haven't finished Batman.Arkham.City yet I will not spoil it for you...took me 16 hours to beat and I missed a lot of side missions......and didn't get to fight the Riddler.. I will be going back through the game thx again for the laughs Mark... there will never be another joker like you.

Well if you finish the story in Arkham City then you will know why he is done with the voice of the Joker.

I am truly miss Mark Hammill as the Joker. Ever since the first time I heard his iconic laugh as the Joker he has always been my favorite villain. I wish Mark the best on what he does next but I doubt anyone can truly fill his shoes as the Joker. :(. I have yet to finish Arkham City, but I have enjoyed every minute I have played it so far.

Although it is jumping the gun and over speculating, because he has also said that if they came up with ideas that topped arkham city that he would do it again....He just doesn't want to keep doing it till its ran into the ground and a crap game just to make money

Why not pay Jack Nicholson that money and have him do the voice. He is the original Joker. Everyone who is a batman fan knows this and is familiar with his voice.

    Here's how it is...

    Kevin Conroy IS Batman.
    Mark Hamill IS The Joker
Arleen Sorkin IS Harley Quinn (Tara Strong does a pasable imitation, but... Yeah, she's NOT Harley Quinn)

I though Di Maggio did a fantastic job in Red Hood. I will say that Hamil is by far the best and my all time favorite to take a crack at voicing Joker, but the mantel must be passed on sooner or later.

Personally I don't understand why you 'retire' from voice acting a character. Unless you physically are pained by it someway I just can't imagine it being all too taxing.

Not to sound like I'm ungrateful for Mark's fantastic voice acting but I would assume if you wanted to you could get it all done within 3 days.

But as someone who's never done that I guess I have no frame of reference or legs to stand on.

Not sure who I would pick for the voice. For live action there is one obvious choice. . . Alan Tudyk. Anyone who has seen him on Firefly and Dollhouse knows he can be adequately comical and menacing. He also has the "nerd cred" to appeal to likely Batman fans.

As for the next game they could. . . not use Joker. Make the next game "Batman: Beyond Arkham" and get Will Friedle to voice batman while Kevin Conroy does Bruce Wayne in an oracle role. Villains could include Inque, Shriek, Blight, Spellbinder (in the scarecrow role), Stalker, Catwoman (from Hush Beyond) and others from that continuity.

We shall miss you Hamill.... But as for a replacement, as if that can happen, it would have to be John Dimagio duhhhh
