Microsoft and Epic Games are looking to spoil Gears of War fans. We're already getting new options on the multiplayer side of Gears of War 3 with the Horde Command Pack downloadable content on November 1, and now it's confirmed that the story will be taken further with RAAM's Shadow, which arrives on December 13.
A morning press release from Microsoft confirms the new and the release date, with a price tag of 1,2000 MS Points for the DLC (or free, if you purchased the Gears 3 Season Pass). In addition to a three hour campaign add-on, the pack also includes six new multiplayer characters, the Chocolate Weapon Set and 250 GS in new Achievements.
The title of the DLC refers to Locust general RAAM, the final boss of the series' first game. Players will control Zeta Squad, led by Michael Barrick, a major character in the Gears comic series. Fans can also expect to see familiar names like Lt. Minh Young Kim and Tai Kaliso, as well as newcomer Alicia Valera.
The story winds back the clock to a time before the first game, focusing on a post-Emergence Day mission in which Zeta is tasked with helping to evacuate Ilima City, which is being pelted by a Locust Kryll storm. The story will shift perspectives at some point as well, with players taking control of RAAM as he takes on those filthy humans.
It's not clear if co-op will be supported in this pack; the safe assumption is "yes," but RAAM's uniqueness as a character suggests that the co-op experience for his playable portion of the campaign might differ a bit from what fans are used to. I've reached out to Microsoft for clarification, so stay tuned for an update.
