Hyrule: Total War, A Fan Made Zelda Game -- Shut Up And Take My Money

What if I were to tell you there was a game that combined the gameplay mechanics of Total War with the lore of The Legend of Zelda? You would start crying, role up into the fetal position and rock back and forth while promising Saria you'll always be friends. I know because this is how I reacted when I saw this: Hyrule: Total War.

A gamer named UndyingNephalim made a conversion of Medieval 2: Total War to create Hyrule: Total War. In the game players can assemble armies of different Zelda races. All your favorites are there: Zora, Gerudo, Gorons, and oh my god the Lizalfos have armor!

Here's the game's summary:

The Hero of Time has chosen to return to the past, a choice that ultimately has ruined the charts of history and sent Hyrule into chaos. Major wars that were already decided have unmade themselves, allowing fallen armies a second chance at these critical events in Hyrule's history. This is where you, the player, comes in. You shall choose how to rewrite the history of Hyrule. Do you stick with the proper path and smite the evil in the land in the name of the Goddesses? Or perhaps you feel that the Hylians have overstayed their welcome as masters of the land and would rather the Gerudo forces of Ganondorf lead Hyrule into a new age leadership? Maybe you feel it's time that the Gorons march from their mountain kingdoms and rebuild their long lost empire, smashing anyone who opposes their will? On the other hand, you might fall in favor of fighting for the Zora Dominion and cleansing the land of imperfect creatures and establishing a new order of purity. Perhaps the forces of nature have won you over, and you would see to it that the Kokiri and beings of the forest rise to power? Or maybe you would act against nature, and infest and consume all life as the infestation of Gohma... There are many races to choose from, and many possible outcomes to your actions. Hyrule's fate is now in your hands. Will you lead it to a golden age of peace, or dominate it in your name?

Here's what you'll need to play:

Hyrule: Total War Demo 2.3

Download Link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=P71M24BY

Requirements: Kingdoms Expansion pack

Installation: Simply run the installer. The default directory might not match yours though, so be sure to install the game in a mod folder if it's not.

The 15 playable factions are:

The Kingdom of Hyrule, Gerudo, Gorons, Zora, Kokiri, Gohma, Ordona Province, Lanayru Province, Deku Tribes, Stalfos, Moblins, Sheikah, Darknut Legion, Lizalfos, and the Labrynna Regime

I'm honestly freaking out right now. I know it's a waste of time to hope Nintendo makes this, so all I can do is hope the game's creators continue to update the game they have now.

A Zelda game set in an Elder Scrolls type world would be awesome. Wish they would make a mature Zelda title that rivaled Skyrim.

Wow, a fairly interesting take on the Zelda Universe. I have to admit, as much of a departure it would be from my favorite game series of all time, I could see this working. The guy who made this is very talented, nice job!

A Hyrulian Civil War IS canon (taking place shortly before Ocarina of Time) so this concept making its way into a Zelda game would seem possible. But a few changes would definitely need to be made (namely the number of factions and the sheer number of bodies onscreen).

Finally someone shows what a Zelda games would look like if Nintendo listened to what hammers wanted.

Oh well. The new game will sell millions, but none of that money will be mine. For the first time in a long time I will not be buying a Zelda game.

    Good luck Z!
