Battlefield 3 will feature an optional hi-res texture pack install on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 according to DICE. If you're a bit jealous of how amazing the game will look on the PC, then all you'll have to do is install the optional pack and your game will look better than ever.
"We're pushing that technology to the limit, and compared to our competitors, I would argue that we're the best looking game," said Battlefield 3 producer Patrick Liu.
Battlefield 3 won't be the first game to include an option texture pack download, as Rage featured it as well, but I think it's pretty awesome that more games are going this route.
All you have to pony up for better looking graphics is a bit of your hard drive space. Are you willing to make the trade, or are you just interested in the gameplay and not the high end graphics?

this is awsome! thank god i have a big ass hard drive on my xbox :)

the hi-rez takes more out of the GPU, not the CPU. so they can't add the higher player count, and though i'm not sure why the idn't just put it on the disc, at first i thought it was do to the disc limitations but they split up the multi-player and single-player onto 2 seperat discs so IDK

Sure if I had room but I barely have enough to install the base game onto my hdd.

Wait if they could do this, how come they couldn't add a high player count to consoles.......if they coudln't add more players because of the graphics being so high it would eat our console's CPU, how come with this texture pack they couldn't increase player counts, wouldn't it make sense that if you got the texture pack it would reduce player counts, just saying.

I save my games to my HD no matter what. If its something that i see myself playing for a extended period of time i save it to the HD, Less ware on the disk as well which is a bonus. Hope this lil bit makes the game look better as i was disappointed in xbox vs pc graphics

500 GIG HD on my PS3, so no problemo!
imonahorse
does this make it 60 fps? because if not, i don't see how it's supposed to look better than than the cod8 engine

I think its like 2.5 gigs, roughly. Which, for a 250G hard drive isn't terribad. Ill definitely be doing this, mainly to get rid of harsh edges.

I would just like to know how much space it will take up. Why does DICE continually keep us in the dark and feed us lala?

The Rage version didn't work as well on the PS3 as it did on the 360.

where would you get this supposed high res pack for BF3 and also for rage?
Raccaway
Hell yeah! A little hard drive space for better graphics why not right?

That's good that it's optional. More games should have optional installs instead of mandatory ones, especially on PS3. I also like that they let you know what the install is for.
UnJakeable
I think this will become a new standard for most games.
