Halo Movie Rumors Resurface In Press Kit, But Don't Get Your Hopes Up

Fight Finishes For Last Remaining Halo 2 Gamers

Let's all just calm down for a minute. A Halo movie has long been a dream for fans, one that's almost happened several times. The closest we got was a project that had Peter Jackson producing and District 9 helmer Neill Blomkamp directing. It was put to rest for a variety of reasons. Now there's information suggesting that a Halo movie -- from Steven Spielberg, no less -- is coming in 2012.

Not bloody likely, I say.

The word comes from a French language press release for the upcoming Halo: Cryptum novel (via CVG), which notes that a film adaptation of the popular series is set for 2012 with Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks leading the charge. This isn't the first time Spielberg's name has been attached to Halo, which I would guess is how it ends up being mentioned in the press release.

Unfortunately for fans, Hollywood productions can't really be kept under wraps the way video games are. This is especially true for a blockbuster production, which Halo would surely be, not to mention one with a name like Spielberg's attached to it. That 2012 timeframe is the big red flag here; there's just no way we're at most slightly more than a year out from a Halo movie without having heard anything.

Whoever wrote the press kit up was likely misinformed or simply working with inaccurate information. I've dropped DreamWorks a line just to be sure, but seriously folks: don't get your hopes up.

Any type of Halo movie will not be well received by fans, torn apart by critics, and will be a major disappointment. If you are a fan of Halo play the games instead of waiting for a movie that will be subpar and a bad idea. If you don't believe me ask the Resident Evil fans what they think of what hollywood has done with the franchise.

I'm iffy about a Halo movie. While Halo would no doubt be really gorgeous on the big screen, I've seen far too many times what Holly Wood does to Video Game and anime/cartoon live action movies. It's like they have no idea what source material is. So, while Halo's special effects would no doubt be mind blowingly awesome, the movie itself would more than likely bastardize the story and I'd hate it instantly. Unless Bungie has script control, then this movie will probably suck. It'll make a ton of money in the box office, but far less in DVD sales as fans everywhere will boycott it.

The way i possibly see it is a story based on the books rather than the actuall game, that has actually been in production for a while. kept a secret. possibly...

I would rather have James Cameron do the job because the way he did Avatar was obviously impressive. I actually thought Avatar was quite similar to Halo itself, the Choppers looked like Hornets,no? But the only way it can be done is if they followed through like they did with the short clips for ODST and Reach. Cast the right people for UNSC and make the Covenant CGI,it's the only way...

They better not fack up this movie by trying to condense all of the stuff in the Halo universe into one movie....they ruined some of the Harry Potter movies due to the fact that SO MUCH was left out (just an example)

Well all I have one thing to say. Whatever you do. Do not make it turn out bad like Dragon Ball Evolution was. I seriously thought i was going to vomit up my soul just watching that. And I only watched 10 minuets of it before I had to stop the movie, throw it, then stomp on it, and finally burn it.

Can we please just keep games as games and movies as movies? It's common knowledge that most game-to-movie adaptations suck, as well as the games that are based off of movies. Just because some of these wildly popular franchises have the potential to be great movies doesn't mean that they automatically will just because a big name director has signed onto the project.

I think it should be a CG movie with all the assets from the game. Same actors doing voice overs and all that. Basically an expansion of the games that looks like the games. If a great director like Steven Spielberg wanted to make sure it all came together the right way, that would be fine with me.

The people who wrote the rumor already updated it saying that it was a mistake. . . what a killjoy.

I think early-mid 2013 is a good guess IF there is a movie, with Halo 4 coming out late 2012.

ya who ever makes it pray they dont scrap it again like bungie didnt have a pairto actually go through with it instead they made 2-3min long live action teasers WTH if you can make those you can make a movie wasted more money on trailers than an actual movie !!!!!

If they are smart. They will follow the books. The Halo name and his together, money. 3 books with chief and a prequel, and a side story. Whole lot of money to be made.

Imagine if the did it with the intent of making it a trilogy? The story alone is too big to fit in a 2 hour movie.
