It's finally not to early to talk about the next-generation of consoles! (Check out our feature on what's going on in the next-gen right here.) Although there's no official announce of the Xbox 720, Microsoft's no-doubt carefully constructed launch hype seems to be already underway, people. The screenshot you see above, taken from the trailer for upcoming robot-beat-up movie Real Steel, clearly shows an Xbox 720 advertisements in the stands of the giant-robot-fighting stadium.
Real Steel is a science-fiction movie set in the near future, so it could be explained away as a bit of poetic license on the part of the film-makers, the real world of big budget movie financing doesn't work that way. The ads you see in the trailer are all for real products from real companies (Coke, Cadillac, etc.), and it stands to reason these companies both paid for and approved the ads in the trailer. So while this can't really be taken as a confirmation of the name (and existence) of the Xbox 720, and it's no-doubt tongue-in-cheek, it's a "real" ad... kind of. I mean, I expect a new logo when the thing really launches, but as far as raising awareness, it works.

720 is 360x2. Which I guess since the 360 brought the xbox full circle from what it was, a giant heavy piece of crap, to what it is now. So maybe this will bring the 360 full circle to something else. Plus it sounds a little better calling it the 720 instead of the 360 2.

Making a big deal out of nothing. Real Steel is suppose to be set, wait for it.... IN THE FUTURE from now. So it would be rather idiotic if they used a current gen system in any ads. Using a possible (or inevitable) next gen system ad is required. Just like using last generation ads today would just be stupid, same goes for this. Just cause it was used, does not mean the system is real, yet. Until ~officially~ confirmed, that is just as real as having boxing robots of that caliber today.

i've seen all kinds of crazy ads in movies. this in no way means that microsoft is planning a new console. to be honest i wouldnt be to excited even if they were. at the moment the only thing that really matters to anyone in the console hardware world is the WiiU, and maybe the possibility of an ACTUAL new console from the nintendo. no one cares about microsoft at the moment.

Xbox 720 is currently a fiction, until Microsoft announces it. An Xbox 720 ad in a movie keeps them in the consciousness but still allows them to come up with another name. It has been; the anticipated name by many people. But Xbox 720 may never actually exist. But who knows, maybe it is a hint.

Sadly we wont see this console until 2015 at the earliest and we all know consoles are overpriced the first year or two and have terrible line ups during that time.
We will be playing current gen consoles/PC games for a while.
