The next Assassin's Creed game, which could be called Assassin's Creed 3, will be released next year, 2012. Assassin's Creed: Revelation creative lead Alexandre Amacio spoke with Eurogamer about how the plot tied directly to the next game's release date.
"In Assassin's Creed we set up a time line with this whole end of the world plot of December 2012. That's fast approaching, and the story we have to tell, we obviously need to do it before we arrive at that point."
The fisrt Assassin's Creed game came out in 2007. Two years later Assassin's Creed 2 was released. 2010 and 2011 both have their own AC games with Brotherhood and Revelations respectively. Taking the established cycle into consideration, it makes sense that the next game would come out in 2012. When you consider the end of the world is 12-21-2012, and the role that plays in the AssCreed universe, it's a no-brainer Assassin's Creed 3 will be released by then. I'm willing to put money on it.
If you're worried this means 2012 is when we'll have to say goodbye to the assassins, don't fret. Ezio and Altair's cycle may end with Revelations, and Desmond's cycle ends with Assassin's Creed 3, but there's an endless amount of cycles at Ubisoft's fingertips.
"Assassin's Creed is all about cycles - we have the Ezio cycle and the Altair cycle, and both of those are set to conclude in Revelations and we have the Desmond cycle, which is set to end on December 2012," said Amacio. "But there's many cycles within the brand - that's the whole point. History is our playground."

I'm sure when the next game releases (most likely by late December of next year) that Desmond, after sitting in the shadows for five years, will be the main protagonist. Considering that the entire franchise's success is based on going back in time (figuratively, of course) I'm sure Ubisoft will find some sort of way to tie a visit to another anscestor in, perhaps like in Revelations with Altair and Ezio. And as with every game thus far, I'm sure they will find a way to implement the modern cityscape in the freerunning/parkour element. As for the weapons, I'm relatively sure they will remain the same, if slightly modernized. As I'm sure everyone is thinking, what is the fun in carrying a Desert Eagle around. And just because the world will be (hopefully) saved, that doesn't mean the end of the Assassin/Templar War, opening the possibilities to new games and new protagonists. And for all of you who have grown attached to Desmond, by now (referring to the insightful, if somewhat dry and uneventful, Desmond missions in Revelations) they developed him enough that he will almost definitely become a recurring character, perhaps rising through the ranks and training new recruits, but getting his hands dirty, much like our good friend Ezio.

I could care less when it comes out. All I know is that if Desmond is the sole protagonist in the next game, i will never purchase another assassins creed game again.

the end of is not coming in 2012 just cuz a game says that does not mean that itis going to happen

Sorry i meant Sept of 2012, not 212

I don't really consider this milking the franchise, I think its more just bad planing. I mean if you go back and play Assassins Creed 1, it takes place in I believe it was Sept. of 212 and there were a bunch of things that hinted towards the supposed end of the world in December of 2012. So it was obvious that Ubisoft wanted the end of Desmond's story line to coincide with that date. Where I think they went wrong was when they decided that they wanted to finish out the Ezio story line with Brotherhood and Revelations. This put them in a squeeze where they had to put out a game every year to both finish Ezio's story in time while also following their timeline for Desmond's story. They can't delay it cause that would be like making something about how the world ends on Y2K and releasing it on January 2nd 2000, you lose most of the appeal of the doomsday story.

TBH I find Desmond's story the least interesting of the 3 main characters.

you guys are nuts! if i had to wait a whole other year to play revelations i would die! they aren't milking it they are telling the story, its called being productive they have people from many different studios working on each game before the other one is even out yet. making everyone wait another year just so 10 people don't think they are milking it sounds kinda foolish..

Is it just me or has assassin's creed turned into Ubisoft's version of Call of Duty, in that Ubisoft is trying to milk the thing dry by making a game every single year. I'm sorry but I think I preferred it when they had Assassin's Creed on a two year development schedule. It allows us have a break in between each game so that every new game feels fresh.

I was afraid everyone would get all caught up in the 2012 thing and miss the Ass Creed. |)

Man I really wanted to see how Desmond's ancestors got to America before ACIII
shadownerd221
Man 2012 last of Desmond? I hope they end it just yet by 2012
tiger7758
The world is "Supposed to end" on December 21st not the 12.
Keeok
After the 2012 game i hope they take a year off it or something to let me miss the franchise.
Ragehazzard
End of the world is "dated" as December 21 2012 and not December 12, 2012 as this article says. Simple typo. Won't happen either way.
Best marketing in my opinion would be to release it on December 20 so that We all buy it that day so that we feel like we have to beat it that day to see the end of the series before the world ends.

I follow the Ass Creed
