If you were a fan of PS3 game Heavy Rain, don't hold your breath waiting for a sequel. There is no series of quick time events that will convince David Cage, creator of the adventure game, to make a sequel.
In an interview with Develop, Cage said, "I’m not in this business to make money. I wrote Heavy Rain because I was excited about it, because there was something to say. Yeah I could make Heavy Rain 2, but I’ve said what I’ve had to say about it. That’s the strength of Quantic Dream, to have the capacity to create new ideas, to make something that breaks ground."
So no sequel for you. It's not like there was anywhere for the Heavy Rain story to go anyway, and that game was all story. Hopefully, Cage will continue pushing the boundaries of what can be done with a video game with his next title. As big of a fan of Heavy Rain as I am, I don't particularly want there to be a sequel, unless it's a Smash Bros. style fighting game, a cart-racer or a golf game featuring the tragic characters of the Heavy Rain universe.

Well, he shouldn't do it for the money, but for the fans! Make Heavy Rain, with new characters a new story, it doesn't have to connect to the first game, just make another amazing game!!

Here Here! Someone not grinding a game into the ground with sequels. I love people with integrity.

Thank you David Cage for giving me something new and interesting and then telling me your not going to make a sequel to continue the great idea. Great. Go play in traffic.

Really? Cause I got an ending that hinted at a sequel, unless you killed the poor girl.

Who would expect a sequel? /shrug

Maybe it's because of how pissed off he was of how well the game sold on the pre-owned side and they didn't see a dime. And if he isn't in the business of making money then why did they complain about the pre-owned sales so much?
Luck702
Well let's just hope that Cage and Quantic Dream continue to make some innovational games in the future.

I'm quite glad. They already ruined Bioshock with a totally unnecessary and inferior sequel, it would have been really sad to see Heavy Rain follow the same path.
One thing though, this does necessitate that they revive the canceled DLC promised oh so long ago, for one simple reason: EXPLAINING THE PLOT HOLES. There's nothing so seriously wrong with the plot that it cannot be explained, but there are few aspects of the plot that were never explained which really, really needed to be...

Bravo! While I am sad to hear this news -I enjoyed Heavy Rain as well as that genre of game- I applaud him. Already the gaming industry is being infected by Suits who want to ruin creativity and development freedom into the ground (See: the Music and Movie industries) all for the sake of THE MONEY!
For the record, I have no problem with "THE MONEY" or people who want to make it, but with regards to creativity and those things that rely upon it, Greed is antithetical to creativity. If the sole reason something creative is being done is for THE MONEY, then it shouldn't be done.
I don't want extensive focus group testing & demographic targeting. I don't want games "designed-by-committee" whereby MBA's in boardrooms have more of a say than the creators and developers as to what and how games get made, or the final say. I don't want people who've never played a video game, don't understand video games or how and why people play video games to call the shots.
The sad this is those things already happen now.
I would love to see this industry return to the freedom and creativity that started and sustains it... but sadly, I know this isn't going to happen. Video games aren't a niche anymore and nerd culture is now pop culture, and VERY big business.
The Suits know the vast sums of money that can be made, and they won't stop till they've bled it dry or found something more profitable.

I wish more devs were like this instead of pounding a franchise into the ground with unnecessary sequels.

I was a big fan of Heavy Rain and this kind of makes me sad. I didn't believe there should be a direct sequel to the story but I did hope that there would be a sequel involving a different set of characters and story. Bummer

Why would anyone start expecting a sequal to Heavy Rain. That's not at all how Quantic Dream works. Anyone who got their hopes up for the possibility of a sequal isn't a fan of Quantic Dream games.
Evildude666
I thought the game was ok but I liked LA Noire better.

While i agree Heavy Rain does not need a sequel, I do hope that more adventure games in that style would be made. I grew up on adventure games, and it is one genre that i believe has been wrongfully forgotten about. While I probably would not buy "Heavy Rain 2" I would buy another adventure game in the "Heavy Rain" style.

i don't think fans wanted a sequel anyway. i mean it wasn't even replayable. if you played it again i kinda ruined the experience a little bit. at least in my opinion.
