Blizzard has just announced that Diablo 3 will miss its originally targeted release date of the end of 2011 and will instead launch in early 2012. No official release date has been announced.
"With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn't put so many years of work into Diablo 3 to release a game that was almost ready," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment.
Morhaime also brings up the state of the Diablo 3 beta that launched on September 20. "The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we're taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players. Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers."
What does this mean for those of you who haven't gotten that golden beta ticket? Well, it means that Blizz is potentially adding a lot more testers than they initially hoped to. So if you still aren't in the be sure to opt in via Battle.net for a chance to participate.
We're going to be writing up a lot of our impressions as well as a few guides from the D3 beta over the next week and would love to know what types of issues you'd like us to address in these previews. Leave your questions in the comments below!
