Star Wars: The Old Republic has been announced for a December release. Thinking back to some of the rocky launches of other MMO's, what does TOR need to do to survive the pitfalls that claim other online RPG's?

@Jessica Chobot if she's back on this week. BTW, you're AWESOME. Okay, you mention military shooters or shooters for the most part are not your thing. What about Uncharted? That's okay if you aren't into the franchise and it'll probably brake my heart to know that but you're still awesome to me.

Do you think one of the primary appeals to PC gaming is the barrier of entry; of course if you look at it reflectively and not intuitively PC gaming is just as expensive as console gaming, but most people don't see that.

So an artificial barrier of entry (price) is put into place with dissuades most parents from buying their kids pc's with gaming capability (even though people need pc's then attach the price of a console & tv to that), this tends to lead to less minor's playing PC games that require a lot of >hardware power<. So it would seem to be the choice of anyone who wants to play with a statistically more mature (older) audience (also niche titles that attract older audiences; Europa universalis, hearts of iron, arma, world of tank, red orchestra IE games for history buffs)

Alternatively if the previous question doesn't interest you here is another:

Don't you think it's time for a new console cycle, right now everything is a game of give and take or you end up dealing with massive amounts of texture pop in.

I for one cannot wait for DX11 ground up games with heavy tessellated models (high fidelity low cost course you dont see that now a days because games aren't made pure dx11) , with geometry instancing and some procedural operation (which would clone models with little work for the GPU, but still adding several variations to al of them) to *finally* create some nice massive battles with thousands of troops/warriors per side ( of course it would be player vs AI at this point or a group of players vs lots of ai; like 20 bro's playing as space marines with 1,000 imperial guard vs 5,000 orks). People say there is more one can do with the current gen; more one can give and take :\. The possibilities of a dx11/opengl 4.1 consoles w/ 64bit processing is simply amazing.

In the last episode of Feedback, their was a quick discussion regarding Final Fantasy X getting the high-def port to the PS3 that ended up what other games could benefit this trend, but do you think this could hurt the industry instead? Why make a new game or expand on an existing one when we could just pretty up an older title and add achievements/trophies with it? It is quite obvious that selling nostalgia does create profits but it just seems it's just squeezing out more of your money in order to replay a game that your fond of. (Nintendo is notorious for doing this.)

For every game there's waves of internet praise/complaints from the loud minority of the gaming audience. Some developers take this feedback more seriously than others. Do you think catering to the ones who speak up is more important than building a product the way the team intended it, vice versa, or a mix of the two?

If you could change one thing or trend from today's games what would it be and why?

I have noticed that most big game companies are really hit and/or miss with understanding their market and hearing what their customer/consumer base is saying to them.

Take for instance your mention of last week, you had a discussion about Final Fantasy 10 getting the HD remake, but not one like Final Fantasy 7 even though that is the one that ever one has been yelling, kicking and screaming about.

What are your views on how game companies weighing the pros and cons of figuring out the fine line between "giving the people what they want" over "this will cost waaay to much and might not be very profitable in the long run" ?

When I talk about gaming getting more expensive. I am including all the costs that one has to pay out to enjoy modern day gaming. And I speak now strictly of console gaming not PC. That is a whole other can of worms. (Cost of hardware, software, games, subscribtions) Now let me make my point. Games have increased in price. Right? right. If you make up a list of all the games worth owning this fall. Add up the amount, you get what? Yeah...That could be a lot. Now your not going to buy every game, or maybe you will. It all depends on which socio/economic group you belong to and your personal budgets. Yes the economy is doing bad right now. Young people in college and those out, 28-34 yr olds are finding it harder to get a job. {see U.S. census info for the past census) Where do we get the money for all these games. Add to that the cost of an ISP, and if you have a Xbox 360, $60 for Xbox Live. And don't say "well you don't have to play multi-player" Because thats bollocks. Your only playing half a game if you ignore multiplayer, and that's cheating yourself.
And that brings me back to my question for Feedback. Looking at and analyzing the value of a game. Is a game like Gears 3 which has such good multi-player and single-player modes. Is it a better value per dollar than Dues Ex? Is This/Should this be a new scale to rate a game? What about Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, on that scale is it the best value per dollar game this fall? Does it out weigh the value of Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3, or Saint's Row 3? Rage looks like a great game, with graphics so pretty and silky smooth. But will the multi-player be any good? Should it bring down the value of the game and thus lessen the score? I don't know that's why I'm asking.

I t seems to me that these days, games focus a lot on the multiplayer aspect. While I admit that most fighting, First person shooters, and racing games work well having a multiplayer option, there are so many other games that have the multiplayer part tacked on because everyone else is doing it. for every few games like Mortal Kombat, Street fighter 4, and Killzone 3 where multiplayer works there are even more games where it's not necessary to have at all, like Assassin's Creed Brotherhood/ Revelations, Naruto Shippuden ultimate ninja Storm 2, and GTA4 where it either is so-so or downright pathetic. Anyways, what do you think about the stat of multiplayer in games these days? and what about game like Call of duty or Homefront where they seem to focus on the multiplayer part but forsake the singleplayer section?

With the recent announcement of Battlefield 3's early DLC releases for PS3 I just wanted to know what your opinions were on the concept of exclusive/early DLC for specific consoles. I understand console exclusive games, but when it comes to multi-platform titles the exclusivity of DLC seems not only to show a bias towards a certain console, but also seems to lack long term buisness sense. What is you take?

Having listened to Feedback for a couple of years now, i've noticed that the majority of the G4 staff (with a few notable exceptions) that sit on the panel all freely admit to rarely playing Multi-Player, and so my question comes in two parts.

Firstly, do you find this to be as much of a platform specific problem as i do ?. Is it really just about a skill disparity on your part, or is the problem more fundamental on the consoles ?.

I almost exclusively play multi-player on the PC as i have found that the average player tends to be a little more mature. Of course you still get the jackasses, but the problem of kids constatly screaming in your ear is nowhere near a prevelant as i have found it to be on the consoles.

Secondly, given the depth of multi-player on most of the AAA titles these days, do you ever feel hamstrung when trying to put together a comprehensive review ?. How can you give an honest and accurate appraisal of a games MP element when by your own admission, your basis for comparison is so limited.

Yes, you do play the multi-player for a couple of hours against other journalists and the devs, but without a wide-ranging background to fall back on, is it really enough ?.

Please dont take this question as a critisism, i usually find your reviews to be spot on. However it is something that has bugged me for a while now.

I was curious about your collective thoughts regarding the use of (and general existence) of the infamous cheat code? Growing up I would be ecstatic to enter in a combination of buttons to absolutely obliterate the game's enemies. I would normally try to wait until I had beaten the main game, but the temptation to possess infinite ammo or invisibility is hard to pass up.

Recently, I've noticed that all of the AAA titles and most games in general have abandoned the concept of the "cheat code" and they take themselves too seriously. Video games are meant to be fun and it seems like common sense to include these.

Besides obviously its graphics, what do you think is the most improved function in Battlefield 3 that will make it superior to the rest of its series?

What are your thought's on the Diablo 3 Real Money Auction House? I think a lot of people are looking over the fact that Diablo 2 had a lot of underground selling of items, and Blizzard wants to provide their players a safe alternative, and one they as a business actually benefit from, if it's going to be a market either way.

The dark side is, this logic could be used by Blizzard to sell gold in WoW, which I don't think is a good change for that game. So I find my self conflicted, and wonder what you guys as a group think.

I'm Starting to feel that enough is enough with the zombies, which is weird cause I love zombies in all medias. But after the uhh-thteen zombie game even I'm starting to feel bogged down by them. I have always loved the game industry for having a wide range of themes, genres, and concepts. And lately I feel as all I am getting is more of the same.
