PSN Accounts Hacked: How to Protect Yourself From Identity Theft

In news that will send shivers down the spine of everyone who suffered through the great PSN outage of 2011, the PlayStation Network is currently down. This is not scheduled maintenance--something doesn't seem to be working correctly.

The news (like all news these days) comes to us via twitter. A tweet from Sony posted two hours ago reads:

"We're aware that some of you are having issues trying to log into PSN. We're working to resolve the issue, and we'll update you here."

UPDATE: 2:18 PM Reports are coming in from gamers all over the net that the PlayStation Network is back up and live. So get playing! Go! Go!

UPDATE: 12:30 PM PlayStationEU, the European twitter account for PlayStation, has confirmed the problem is being addressed and is expected to be go back up in 2 hours.

"Current indications are that we'll be restoring PlayStation Network services in approx. two hours. We appreciate your patience."

I don't know how they could possibly tell that something wasn't working right, because nothing ever works correctly on the Playstation Network !

That's right people, you need to relax.

If you play on the ps3 you should be accustomed to this... happens all the time.

Get what you pay for, right?

PSN is fine now. Is this site having problems? It's too hard to do anything on it and I don't even see the new episode of Feedback up. It's usually up way before 2 pm PT.

Damn people act like they can't go 2 hours without playing online. Get a life people seriously. I understand your frustrated that the playstation network is down again but its not like before.... when you have weeks off then you should complain... not two to five hours... damn

Let's see what happened before we jump to conclusions. Maybe they were testing the security and something went wrong? Maybe... let's hope.

2 Hours? Waah, I got other things to do. I could play some PC games, or wait for an email from Microsoft for ANOTHER 3 weeks on why I was wrongfully console banned.
    See, this isn't that bad!

Think about what it is.... it is the PSN... Playstation NETWORK. Networks do go down sometimes.... I am sure the internet cuts out at your house sometimes, or your router malfunctions. There is something called fault tolerance, but that requires precise calculations, configs, and maintenance. On Xbox live that can be expected as you pay for it. You do not pay for PSN (some of us do pay for services on PSN, but not for PSN itself) and therefore should not expect the same level of service as you would from Xbox. This alone makes the xbox vs ps argument null and void. Not to mention, xbox has gone down before and is also not 100% reliable. Just to clarify, I am not a fanboy of any system as I own them all and play xbox and ps equally. When PS goes down, go play xbox and if xbox goes down, go play ps. Not that difficult.

why panic or complain about anything? Everyone gets hacked and eventually it will be microsoft so how is all of this Sony's fault to begin with? They realized the problem and their working at best to fix it. Calm the hell down, your acting as if this is on purpose your not paying and it's not them having this problem by choice calm down.
