I waited on a very long line a few months ago at San Diego Comic-Con, enduring sunburn and crazed fans just for the opportunity to hear more about the planned Mass Effect movie at the Legendary Pictures panel. Very few questions were answered at the time, something that the studio is aware of and has addressed in a newly posted Q&A on its website.
The revelations are minimal, but it is now confirmed that the movie won't follow the games, instead telling "a completely new story" set in the Mass Effect universe. Commander Shepard will be the focus -- the male version -- though the only casting reveal is that Seth Green won't be taking the role of Joker, the character he voices in the game series. The studio is also "working closely" with BioWare to ensure that any story changes are acceptable to fans.

Im still interested, could be cool. Everyone makes their own shepherd/shepard so its not going to feel exactly the same anyway. But the lack of seth as joker is horribly wrong. Just hope the new storyline is just as awesome and action packed as the first.

So basically unless you play ME as the stock male Shepard who mostly makes Paragon choices this movie won't be for you. This sucks. I hope they either go a different direction with the main character or that this is scrapped altogether. I play as Fem!Shep, and most people do. I'm not being all "pro women down with men" either, it's just a fact that more people prefer the female version. So why is the movie going to be based around John Shepard anyways? The fans of the series have already shown how they favor Jane over him. I hate the Hollywood mentality that women can't lead an action film. Look at Mila J. she rocks those RE movies just fine. Sure the movies suck for the most part, but that isn't because of a the female heroine it's because of the poor writing. Anyways. No Shepard that they make will match anyone's Shep, cause we all play differently and make different choices. In a nutshell this just blows and I hope it never happens.

So they don't want to alienate the fans but seth green won't be playing joker. OK, maybe its just this fan but seth green is the ONLY joker.
To many fans of both shepards to not alienate one or the other if not both.
To much of what i read seemed to tell me that beyond the popularity of the IP the people making the movie don't care about it.

Here's a thought...why not just take one of the ME books an dmake that into a movie? The fanbase has already accepted those as a part of the universe, so why not do a movie on one of them, particularly the first one? They could make a young Anderson the focus of it and not have to mess with game stuff at all and still do a good movie.
If they are going to do it about Sheperd, they've already messed up by not using the real Joker. You can't start off a project by spitting on the fanbase like that.

Ok if the Mass Effect movie follows a "completely new story" then it will Completely Suck. I am tired of overzealous directors or writers wanting to put their own "spin" on a movie. Stay true to the source material! We love Commander Shephard don't add something stupid that was never seen in the games for the sake of being "creative".
Just take ME1 and make that into a movie 'kay please. Doing it CG like Avatar or FF:Advent Children and you have a hit. Do it Any Other Way and you have a bargain bin direct to video waiting to happen.

You know, it could be another Commander Shepherd, either parent or child, or whatever along those lines. In one of the history choices, Shepherd's parents were career military, IIRC.

Furthermore,, Hollywood will also inject the movie with politically correct undertones and ruin it even further. I can guarantee it. Instead of creating art and cinema, all they want to do is create propaganda for their left leaning agendas. How many right leaning people do you see in Hollywood saying they are publicly? That/s right, none. Why? Because they wont get work. How nice and tolerant of people, right? How "diverse". It is an outrage. Hollywood movies now days are jam packed with their propaganda. Stick with creating art for art's sake, not brainwashing the masses.

My interest in this just died, fell right off the planet. "new story" is key phrase for Hollywood rehashed garbage, and that is why 99% of games made into movies are utter crap. They change too much. The reason the Mass Effect games are so good is partly because of the story. I fail to see ANY reason on changing the story, there simply is none. Other than the fact that some rich idiot setting in his throne directing traffic in Hollywood thinks HE knows what is good for Mass Effect, and not the millions who have been playing the games. Look at Resident Evil, I enjoy the movies for what they are, but if they were more closer to the games they would be even better. I guess this will also be in the gimmick "3D" crap? More money grubbing garbage. I just don't understand WHY Hollywood has to change EVERYTHING they make based on a game or book. It is ridiculous, and pointless.

come one people, why?. The galaxy they made for mass effect is huge, there's hundreds of oppurtunities for a story to branch off from the games. Mass Effect at it's core is still a role playing game, and the entire point of an RPG is to make the player feel like their character is one that they created.
I'm not even really mad,just disapointed, this movie had so much potential. I'm not saything it still can't be good, but I guess I was expecting something different.

THIS is probably THE smartest thing thats ever been done with video games to movie adaptations. dont try to tell the story we already know. tells us a different story. but still, make it applicable to the universe you are deriving it from.

I really hate to say this but I agree with most of the fans on this one but 1 no Shepard cuz everyones Shep is different and it would ruin it 4 me and many others and 2 no seth joker boo I say boooooo
