It has been revealed the PS Vita's memory cards won't be cheap. The Vita has limited internal memory, forcing gamers to rely on memory cards to store their data. The cheapest Sony branded memory card will set you back nearly $30.
In a press release Sony detailed four different memory cards. They will be released in Japan when the Vita launches this December. The press release details prices in Yen, so the American currency listing is an approximation.
- 4GB = 2,200yen ($29)
- 8GB = 3,200yen ($42)
- 16GB = 5,500yen ($72)
- 32GB = 9,500yen ($124)
Once the Vita has been released you can bet third-party companies will make their own Vita-compatible memory cards for much cheaper. Hopefully, by the time the PS Vita is released state-side there will be plenty of less expensive options.

I'm with some of the others on this at least being cheaper than the PSP Memory Stick Duo's.
70 BUCKS for 8GB... EIGHT!!
You would have thought Sony would have adapted what was actually GOOD about the PSP Go to the Vita (as in the 16 GB flash memory).

Kind of pricey. I mean with the current prices of memory cards dropping fast, I don't think they'll be this price for long. On top of that, I don't think Sony will pull a BS move like only allow their equipment to work on the Vita, like companies like Apple and Microsoft do a lot of the time.
So we will see a bunch of third parties make Vita memory cards way cheaper and we will have that option.

technically the 32GB is a pretty good deal, the same amount of 4GB cards would be about $230 compared to one $124 32GB card
but then comes how much will the games use?

$30 thats it? You people are bi#$ing about that? My camera memory card cost me $40... and that's for a mid level professional camera. Be thankful they are not asking for more.

Glad im not getting this. =)

I wonder if there is going to be a developer restriction on how big the games can be. With the price of storage this high I wouldn't be surprised there is a cap.
Blue_Vortex
that's a really bad price point considering a 32 gb SD card is near the same price as their 4GB memory stick things this is just a bad deal altogether.
CrackpipeSymptoms
damn, dudes!!! surely cheaper than the PSP memory cards but still a heavy blow to all wallets everywhere. know i know to wait even longer to even think about getting one of my own.
Mr.Owwl
I thought it came with the 32GB memory card!!!!!

I have, in the past year, purchased from an Ebay seller 2(TWO) 8GB PSP branded memory cards for less then $25.
YES! You can pay MORs for SONY
cwbys21
so they are hoping people will games off of psn, but then charge us that much for storage? not a good business plan.

As an owner of a Sony Vaio, I'm not too surprised that Sony's memory cards aren't the cheapest on the market.
MonkeyPWR
32GB is plenty of memory and i think the price is decent, but id rather get the 16GB. should be all you need if your just playing games on the go and watching videos.

If the Vita is going to use a multi-use connector, im fairly certain there will some company to adapt external hard drives to use this to great benefit
ISSUL2
they are trying to rob us this is to much for a stupid memory card
LordMatsu
I don't know, but compared to the PSP memory cards, this is quite cheap.
catrachohn
wait what?! since all games have to be saved in the system this means that they will take a lot of memory. This freaking sucks. i just hope vita comes with lots of memory (i dont know if it has been announced/mentioned yet how much memory it will have). i mean, 32gb is not a lot but if you buy that memory then the vita is almost $350
