Square Enix has announced that the upcoming Final Fantasy 13-2 will have both DLC and mini games, including Chocobo racing. According to FF13-2's producer Yoshinori Kitase, Square Enix is developing downloadable costumes, monsters, and weapons for players to enjoy. Kitase also confirmed that the sequel to Final Fantasy 13 will be non-linear this time around (yay!) and will feature several minigames including chocobo racing, a casino, and an area to host those elements.
Chocobo Racing was a game that originally came out on the PS1 console way back in 1999. It was kind of like Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing. There was also Chocobo racing in Final Fantasy 7 where you had to race against five other opponents on different tracks. I'm guessing that the 13-2 Chocobo racing will be more like the FF7 variety rather than the PS1 game.
Regardless, I have always loved the minigames in the Final Fantasy series, and it made me sad that Final Fantasy 13 didn't really have any except for a weak version of Chocobo Hot and Cold. I'm one of the people who spent over 100 hours with FF13, and everything I keep reading about the sequel always piques my interest more. Plus my 360 avatar is decked out in FF13 gear, so DLC sounds cool to me as well. What about you, will DLC and minigames entice you in to buying the title?
Final Fantasy 13-2 is coming out for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on January 31, 2012.
