PlayStation Vita Online Modes Revealed: Near, Party, LiveArea, and Activity -- Will This Revolutionize Portable Gaming?

The PlayStation Vita is going to be region free, which means that a handheld purchased in one part of the world will play nice with software released for it in another part of the world. Sony president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the news over the weekend in a Twitter update.

This is nothing new for Sony, as the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable are both region free (unless you're a BattleZone fan) -- and thus, import-friendly -- as well. Japan will be getting the Vita on December 17, a month or two it comes to the United States. Those who absolutely can't wait for the new toy will be happy to know now that they have the option of importing.

The PSP is NOT region free guys. There are certain things released for specific regions. There is a bad ass GPS type thing that was released in Japan for the PSP, that they never even considered in the US... It's downloadable just like the SenseME player or Comic Reader, but only in Japan (or you can fake your region in CFW D: ) Just thought I would point that out.

If you don't believe me, spoof your region to Japan, go to extras, and you can download it for yourself.

I don't understand. If it's region-free then why is the North American release so far away from the one in Japan? Wonder what the difference is between the two.

Let me guess, another PS3 release, where I stand in line for 3 days just to come off empty handed. I've never gone so far out of the way for a console just to come up empty handed. I have zero trust in Sony's product delivery.

This sentence doesn't make sense. I think you forgot the word 'before.'

Japan will be getting the Vita on December 17, a month or two BEFORE it comes to the United States.
