If you want to know how to unlock weapon skins, extra characters(COG/Locust), Mutators and special executions you'll need our Gears of War 3 unlockable guide. If you're reading this now you're in luck because this is that guide! Congratulations, you found it! Without further ado, here are the the GoW 3 unlockables.
Weapon Skins
- Gold Lancer: 1. Have a gold lancer in Gears of War 2. Or 2. Play a match of Gears of War 3 multiplayer in the first week of release.
- Gold Hammerburst: 1. Have a gold hammerburst in Gears of War 2. Or 2. Play a match of Gears of War 3 multiplayer in the first week of release.
- Gold Gnasher: Unlock the Veteran Gear achievement from Gears 2.
- Gold Sawed-Off Shotgun: Unlock the Commando achievement in Gears of War.
- Gold Retro Lancer: Get 100 kills with the gold retro lancer in the GoW3 beta.
- Gold Olen Weapon Set: Reach level 100 in GoW3.
- Chrome Lancer: Get the "Don't Hate The Player" achievement Gears of War.
- Chrome Hammerburst: Get the "Dirty, Dirty Horde" achievement in Gears 2.
- Chrome Retro Lancer: Get the "Domination" achievement in Gears 1.
- Chrome Gnasher Shotgun: Finish the campaign in all three Gears games.
- Chrome Sawed-Off Shotgun: Earn a achievement in Gears of War for the PC.
- Flaming Hammerburst: Unlocked for gamers who participated in the first week of the beta.
- Flaming Lancer: Unlocked for gamers who participated in the second week of the beta.
- Flaming Sawed-Off Shotgun: Unlocked for gamers who participated in the third week of the beta.
- Flaming Gnasher: Unlocked for gamers who participated in the fourth week of the beta.
- Crimson Omen Hammerburst: Get the "Welcome to Beast Mode" achievement in Gears 3.
- Crimson Omen Retro Lancer: Get the "Welcome to the Horde" achievement in Gears 3.
- Crimson Omen Gnasher: Get the "Welcome to Versus" achievement in Gears 3.
- Crimson Omen Sawed-Off Shotgun: Get the "Welcome to Arcade Mode" achievement.
- Team Insignia Retro Lancer: Get the bronze Veteran medal from Gears 3 by playing 100 multiplayer matches.
- Team Insignia Lancer: Get the silver Veteran medal from Gears 3 by playing 250 multiplayer matches.
- Team Insignia Hammerburst: Get the gold Veteran medal from Gears 3.
- Team Insignia Shotgun Set: Earn the Onyx Veteran medal in Gears 3.
- Onyx Lancer: Get the Onyx Lancer medal in Gears 3.
- Onyx Hammerburst: Get the Onyx hammerburst medal in Gears 3.
- Onyx Retro Lancer: Get the Onyx Retro medal in Gears 3.
- Onyx Retro Lancer: Get Onyx Retro Lancer medal in Gears 3.
- Onyx Gnasher: Get the Onyx Gnasher medal in Gears 3.
- Onyx Sawed-Off Shotgun: Get the Onyx Sawed-Off medal in Gears 3.
If shiny metalic guns aren't enough for you, fret not because Epic will also be releasing DLC skins for weapons. These skins won't be free but can you really put a price on a pink flower covered lancer?

Next up are the unlockable characters. By progressing through the game you'll unlock both COG characters and special Locust.
COG Characters:
- COG Gear: Reach level 2
- Samantha Byrne: Reach level 4
- Dizzy Wallin: Reach level 7
- Jace Stratton: Reach level 10
- Clayton Carmine: Reach level 14
- Classic Dom: Reach level 17
- Classic Cole: Reach level 23
- Classic Baird: Reach level 30
- Benjamin Carmine: Reach level 34
- Civilian Anya: Reach level 45
- Colonel Hoffman: Reach level 50
- Anthony Carmine: Reach level 75
- Classic Marcus: Get the silver Veteran medal in Gears 3.
- Superstar Cole: Get the gold MVP medal in Gears 3.
- Golden Gear: Get the bronze War Supporter medal in Gears 3.
- Chariman Prescott: Get the silver Allfathers medal in Gears 3.
- Aaron Griffin: Get the Big Money medal.
- Cole Train: Play 100 matches in the beta.
- Adam Fenix: Comes with the Collector's Edition.
Locust Characters:
- Locust Miner: Reach level 3
- Beast Rider: Reach level 5
- Locust Hunter: Reach level 8
- Theron Guard: Reach level 12
- Locust Spotter: Reach level 20
- Flame Grenadier: Reach level 26
- Locust Grenadier: Reach level 39
- Locust Hunter Elite: Reach level 60
- Golden Miner: Get the gold Rifleman medal.
- Locust Golden Hunter: Get the Master-at-arms medal.
- Locust Sniper: Get the bronze Headshot medal.
- Locust Kantus: Get the gold Medic medal.
- Savage Theron Guard: Get the Onyx "I'm a Beast" medal.
Mutators increase the difficluty but also increase your scores in modes like Arcade and Horde 2.0.
- Comet: Get the Shock Troope medal.
- Instagib Melee: 200 Wretch kills
- Super Reload: Get the bronze Master-at-arms medal.
- Infinite Ammo: Get the Combat Engineer pin 100 times.
- Big Explosions: Get the Hail Mary pin 100 times.
- Enemy Regen: Get the silver Aficionado medal.
- Vampire: Get the Executioner pin 100 times.
- Must Active Reload: Get the Silver Reloader medal.
- Friendly Fire: Complete the campaign in 4-player co-op.
- Big Head: Get the gold Horde mode medal.
- Pinata: Get the gold investor medal.
- Flower Blood: Get the silver Ling of COG medal.
- Headless Chicken: Unlocked at the star.
- Laugh Track: Get the bronze medals for Tour of Duty.
The weapon's of Gears of War 3 each have their own unique executions. In Versus mode you'll have to unlock the ability to see them.
- Lancer Rifle: 200 kills
- Hammerburst: 200 kills
- Retro Lancer: 200 kills
- Gnasher Shotgun: 200 kills
- Sawed-Off Shotgun: 200 kills
- Gorgon Pistol: 40 kills
- Digger: 40 kills
- Hammer of dawn: 40 kills
- Mulcher: 40 kills
- Mortar: 40 kills
- Oneshot: 40 kills
- Scorcher: 40 kills
- Torque Bow: 40 kills
- Longshot: 40 kills
- Cleaver: 40 kills
Just when you thought we were finally finished listening all the unlockables we throw Avatar awards at you!
- Marcus's's Doo-Rag: Beat the campaign on any difficulty.
- Locust Drone Mask: Get the "Welcome to Beast Mode" achievement for beating Beast mode.
- Horde Shirt: Get the "Welcome to Horde Mode" achievement beating Horde mode.

WHAT THE FICKLESTICK! I got to lvl 10 horde in gears 2... and no weapon skin.. did I do something wrong???

I'm sure this has already been stated once, so please.. maybe... fix this article:
SUPER RELOAD does not require 300 kills for each weapon. Why does everyone on the internet copy and paste? it's 100 kills with each of the 5 starter weapons: Lancer, Retro Lancer, Gnasher, Sawed-off and Hammerburst. If you look at the qualifications for the Mutator in the menu, it shows that one star is filled in. That means the bronze award (100 kills) for each of the 5 weapons.

or (for the weapon skins) you could just buy them, including 4 out of 5 of the onesthat were supposed to be exclusive to the beta. The only one that isnt one of the ones purchasable is the golden retro. To me thats just a spit in the face of everyone who planned to work for those. that being said at least they released it now instead of 2 months from now....

Just so everyone knows, if you get the Veteran Gear achievement in Gears of War 2, you unlock gold skins for all your guns. And all this week is 25 XP so boot up Gears 2, and get killin some grubs! It's not that hard to level up, and if you boost it'll probably take you like 1 day.

how much do want to bet that the day 1 dlc pac for 2400 pts that gives you 4 bits of dlc for the price of 3 will have 3 with maps and 1 with these skins. i will never buy skins! it doesn't change how the game plays!!

I'm pretty disappointed that there aren't at least a few more skins earned for playing. Unlocks are supposed to make it fun to try to achieve them, if you make it so you have to pay for the majority of the unlocks, you're taking the fun of grinding out. I would bet that this was Microsoft's idea and it's probably going to help pay for dedicated servers and that's fine with me.... But I'm just saying throw in a few camo skins, like digital, blue tiger and red tiger. You can still leave all the crazy ones as pay-for content.

so for the DLC skins does that mean we are gonna ave to buy the individually or are they coming as a set? cause by not releasing different weapon skins seems like Microsoft is mining for loot. why do you think you have to pay $1 for your first month when you create a new gamer-tag!
