Have you not heard of Ni no Kuni? Even if JRPGs aren't your thing, this is one that's worth taking a look at. It's a collaborative effort between Level-5, of Professor Layton and Dragon Quest IX fame, and Studio Ghibli, the Japanese anime film studio behind visually striking releases like Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky. Ni no Kuni is a product of their combined efforts, and it's officially coming to North America early next year.
The game was originally a Nintendo DS release, though a PlayStation 3 is coming to Japan in November. That's the version we'll be getting here in the U.S., with GameSpot bringing word from Tokyo Game Show that the console game's story will play out somewhat differently than the handheld's, and that additional story content will fill out the events that occur after the end of the DS game. Downloadable content is planned as well, though no details are being revealed on that just yet.
