The problem with making a great sports game in a venerable franchise is that you raised the bar for yourself for the following year. You can't just put out the same game and slap a new year on it, right? This is the challenge that faces NHL 12. Last year's hockey game was a stunner, so this year's has a lot to live up to. G4's Mike D'Alonzo got his hands on NHL 12 to write a review, and phrased it this way:
"Last season, EA managed a real doozy of a hockey game, making NHL 11 one of the best in the history of the franchise, making improvements all over the place, and reasserting the game as one of the best sports games on the market, period. So, how do they follow up a game like that in the next iteration? With such a high top end, can there be improvements, or will they be content just to tread water?"
