We took it upon ourselves to make a Gears of War 3 guide to help you better understand the game. We'd hate to have you be the that lame guy who confuses Brumaks with Wretches. We'd blame ourselves if you got beat up for that. To prevent tragedies like like this we compilied a Gears of War 3 launch guide with story details, multiplayer maps and so much more.

What kind of game is it?

Gears of War 3, and it's prequels, are third-person shooters developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft. It is set in the future on the planet Sera and depicts a battle between humans and the Locust Horde. The main character is Marcus Fenix, a COG soldier. Gears of War 3 will be the first in the series to support 4-player co-op. Other playable characters include Dom Santiago, Augustus Cole, and Damon Baird. Due to the nature of the game, Gears of War has followed a dark and violent plot line.

Who's the Developer?

Gears of War is developed by Epic Games located in North Carolina. They are known for Unreal technology, including the Unreal Engine 3. Many games use Epic's Unreal Engine including Mass Effect, BioShock and Borderlands. Several smaller studios are under Epic's umbrella including People Can Fly, Titan Studios and Chair Entertainment.

What's the story?

Gears of War 3  takes places 18 months after GoW 2 and the fall of Jacinto. Survivors have moved to the island of Vectes to rebuild. Meanwhile the head of the COG has abandoned the soldiers who are forced to disband. Maruc and the rest of the Delta squad find refuge on the Raven's Nest. While aboard the Raven's Nest Marcus discovers his father is still alive and may hold the key to saving humanity and defeating the Locust once and for all.  

Multiplayer/Online?

 Multiplayer is the bread and butter of the Gears series and to make sure Gears 3 didn't ship with the mistakes Gears 2 did Epic held a public beta for the multiplayer mode. Gears 3 will include 4 types of multiplayer modes.

• 4-player Co-op - For the first time in Gears series, up to 4-players will be able to play together cooperatively.
• Traditional Multiplayer - Traditional Team Deathmatch, Warzone and Capture the Leader are just some of the modes that will be playable in Gears of War 3. Epic has confirmed that will operate on its own dedicated servers.
• Horde 2.0 - Horde 2.0 promises to be more strategic than Gears 2's Horde mode. Gamers will be able to set up a Command Post and earn currency to purchase items to strengthen their defense.

• Beast Mode - New to the Gears series, Beast Mode is similar to Horde mode except gamers can take the roll of the Locust.

What'd we say?

 X-Play's Michael Leffler reviewed the game. He and Mike "Gears Whisper" Demskir plowed through the game in record time. Here's what Leffler thought:

"The hallmark of the Gears of War franchise is a blend of somber apocalyptic tone and pulse pounding gameplay. Gears 3 is no different. The last remnants of humanity winnow ever closer to extinction and the remaining Gears are stationed on an aircraft carrier. The world of Sera has grown even more dangerous since the end of the last game with the introduction of a new strain of emulsion-infected Locusts called the Lambent who will definitely ruin your day."
