Nintendo confirmed this morning that Kid Icarus: Uprising, the 3DS game that had been planned for a late-2011 release, will now not be coming until sometime next year. A press release reveals that "the development team... has determined that more time is needed to complete the game," and so they'll have it.
The press release also confirmed that "3D Kid Icarus animations" are being developed with "critically acclaimed Japanese anime production houses." When it is ready, the content will be released worldwide as downloadable content on the 3DS via the Nintendo Video service.

Games being delayed always means a better game for us! Sometimes though the hype is gone and no one cares when the game is finally released.

Can't really say I'm suprised. The holiday season's bloated [as usual], and is just getting more so with each passing day.

I think the delay is both a good and a bad thing. It's good that the game is getting more polish (and no longer sandwiched between Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7). But now it's release date is in the range of competing with Kingdom Hearts 3D, Luigi's Mansion 2, Paper Mario, Resident Evil Revelations and other higher profile games. I'm worried that since the series hasn't had an installment in 20 years that many gamers will overlook it in favor of the more proven franchises due to the simple fact that they can't afford to buy games as frequently as their piling release dates demand. I don't have a 3DS yet, but I'm already dreading the cost if the release dates aren't spaced out.
