Before you scoff at seeing "yet another Grand Theft Auto 4 graphics mod," take a moment to watch at least a little bit of the above video. If you've got any familiarity with New York City, it won't take long to impress you.
Modder Gionight built this beautiful GTA4 mod that effectively turns Rockstar's Liberty City into a closer approximation of the Big Apple, complete with authentic signage (there are also some GTA-specific ones) and more accurately rendered storefronts. You can get the finished mod now at GTA4-mods.com (via Kotaku).

Honestly, this is the quality I held GTA 4 to be in the first place, with all the boasting about climbing up poles and all the scaffolding, just to be made out to be liars. The first thing I did when I bought the game was to climb the scaffolding, my second thing I did was try to swim under water. Epic Fail on what was promised, but a great game all together. I passed it, yea!
