Sony has hired Philip Reitinger, former director of the US National Cyber Security Center, to head up its security efforts. Remember back in April when the PlayStation Network was down for a long time, and Sony promised they would "try our absolute best to try and make our system as secure as we possibly can?" The company just announced this major step toward that end.
Reitinger's official title will be senior vice president. He'll be based in Washington and will report to Sony general counsel Nicole Seligman.
"Certainly the network issue was a catalyst for the appointment," a Sony spokesman told Reuters. "We are looking to bolster our network security even further."
Do you feel the PSN is more secure than it was? Do you think Sony is doing enough? Personally, I think the PSN is likely to become the most secure gaming network ever. Sony lost so much money and good will with the outage in April and May, they won't ever let anything like that happen to them again.

This is just public relations move. They lost too much credibility and now they are trying to make you forget about how badly they screwed up in the first place. The network won't be any safer. Hackers will be looking forward to the challenge of trying to hack the system now that this guy is in charge.

I have feeling Psn Not going to Stay free Forever. Then thell Charge $45 dollers a year then thell Say "Ahem.. Derp its Cheaper than Xbox live and still doesnt have Cross game chat."

As vole182 put it best. Creating and Maintaining Security policies and equipment is an extremely expensive endeavor, and that price only increases as your network grows, so even with this guy from HS, it will still come down to Sony willing to pay for the price tag.

i will say it i am abig fan of sony i almost always love their products (besides their cell phones those are awful) but when psn was shut down i was legitimately concerned for my information. people always say sony could have handled it a little better but i dont see how. id rather wait a week to know exactly what happened than be given false information

I think they are doing all that they can. I'm sure that they wont ever want something like that to happen again. I think it is more secure. I think they are going to do whatever they can to make us happy and not have that happy.

You all realize they have A GUY from homeland security, not access to anything else from h.s. right? they just added one guy who works or worked somewhere with a high security title, that doesn't really mean anything. One extra counter-hacker isn't going to secure the whole psn all by his lonesome.
KingScruffyIV
What people arent realizing is that they have a guy from homeland security NOT homeland security itself. They may have an idea of what to do, but not the machinery software and manpower to accually make it secure.

What I heard was why Sony got hacked is because they fired or gave the net work security people the pink slip, that's why Sony got hacked and this stop the Cyber Bullying thing and hiring Home Land Security thing sounds rather like ease dropping on my privacy rights, well the good thing about this that Home Land Security will catch hackers in the act hacking peoples accounts and stealing money from innocent people and people's Face Book accounts too, there is a lot of hacking going on and Home Land Security will catch them and arrest them for hacking.Good!
