Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

This week's Feedback has been up for a day and we're already planning next week's show. The word you were looking for is dedication. Before we lock down the show we need one very important piece to the Feedback puzzle: You. We know you have questions and you can bet we have answers. Next week we're going to be covering Call of Duty's convention, CoD XP. Are you going? Ask us questions about it. We're also going to be talking about Resistance 3 for the PS3. If you're a fan of shooters, aliens or the color brown, I know you'll have questions. But why stop there? Ask us anything, our favorite colors, favorite weapons, greatest fears, most commonly purchased cereal. This is your moment to shine! Shine on my little stars! Shine on!

With Resistance 3's release this week, I have begun to question what makes a first person shooter fun. Resistance, unlike Call of Duty, has a marginally different control scheme, a sci-fi setting, aliens and a plethora of unique weapons. Yet, like call of duty, it retains the linear first person shooter levels, point and shoot mechanics and a multiplayer component based around competing against other players while getting awards for doing well. Despite the same core gameplay mechanics, Resistance 3 seems to stand out to reviewers and myself as a FUN GAME.

Do first person shooters need to innovate or do something creatively different to be fun? Call of Duty has become more of a chore than fun. What could developers do to Call of Duty to make it fun?

I have a question. What is the groups thoughts on Gamestop buying and selling iOS devices? Is Gamestop trying to get in on the mobile market like BestBuy and all other major retailers have been doing? Does this have the potential to increase Gamestop's stock prices, or will this be something that just goes by the wayside and is abandoned?

I have been on the hedge about buying into CoD if only for the Single player experience. I really could give a rats *blank* about the MP one as popular as it may be. My question is regarding the new service they are launching with the release of CoD3. Would if be viable for them to just offer the MP part of the game for that Premium Elite pricing or more, which would make sense to me, as it would give competitive players what they want and still rake in good money for them (still too much in my opinion). Then offer the Single Player campaigns for $20-30. So those like me could purchase what they want and not be forced to purchase the "junk" that they don't. They could keep charging the yearly fee and just update the MP client with newer versions. The DLC adds new levels and content anyways, so just paying a yearly fee to use the client seems prudent.

Hey Leah, you said last week (I think), that you're playing lots of StarCraft II lately. Do you just play skirmishes, or custom maps? What's your favorite at the moment?

As we know, sometimes great games are ignored by consumers: games like Okami and Psychonauts come to mind. What, in your opinion, are the most tragically ignored games in recent years?

In addition maybe we would have seen more cross platform play between ps3 and steam users for games such as call of duty or even the upcoming BF3?

I have a question for you guys. After reading that Microsoft's third party guidelines are reportedly adamant that all games released on the Xbox 360 must launch "at least simultaneously" with other systems and must have "at least" the same features and content. It reserves the right to veto release if those guidelines are not met. Does this mean that games Like Call Of Duty, Skyrim, and all other multiplatform games could of had more features and possibly better graphics for their Ps3 versions?

These past few weeks I found my self watching the live game tournaments on your site. I was very much enjoying the competitions which isn't something I thought would be the case. I had thought watching people play video games on TV or what ever the media outlet would be boring but was completely wrong. These game tournaments like Star Craft 2 and Modern Warfare 3 were very enthralling and I am looking forward to more events being hosted on this site or anywhere else for that matter.

My question is do you see competitive gaming tournaments going mainstream? What do you think it would take for these events to go mainstream, ei what do the need to add or do differently?

I cant help but ask, but I don't really want to. How do you feel about the Alyssa Bereznak thing? I believe in freedom of speech and I personally don't care if she gets fired or not, but I don't know if firing her for writing her opinions is the right thing, since they did hire her (or at least give her the intern spot) to do so. She is still protected by the first amendment, i know this does not mean she can't be fired but she technically did her job, albeit in a very unintelligent way. She put the dude on blast and made herself look like a moron, but should gizmondo let her go or not?

Do you feel that any of the shooters that are coming out this fall, as well as any that are coming out in 2012 (that've been announced so far) are truly any games that are pushing this genre forward? Or does it seem like they're just continuations of the same formula, with just a few added new bells and whistles, that's starting to bogwash a lot of the games within this genre?

I would like to know how bad Adam Sessler or Morgan Webb are looking forward to BF3? Also if they will be getting the PC version or a console version? That's the only game that I care about hearing about. :)

Looking to the future, what do you think is the future of MMO's as a whole? Also, if Warhammer 40k: Space Marine does well do you think they will make a sequel? Or could it be a possible one-hit wonder?

What would you at X-Play like to see in Resistance 3? For me, the franchise seems to have had a bit of an identity crisis: The games have always seemed a strange hybrid of modern, military-style shooters crossed with an over-the-top, Unreal-Tournament-feeling experience. For this reason, I could never really get into the Resistance franchise, and the most recent multiplayer beta felt similarly along those lines. Thoughts?

What ever happened to the Morning Hangover articles and the Daily Reacharound articles? those were always either funny or just fun articles to read, but suddenly out of nowhere they were gone. If you can you should bring those back and maybe add some other kinds of articles that bring up certain topics to talk about, or any kind of articles that would add to what you already do. It just seems like somethings been missing from G4 for a while now.

What would Activision have to do to cause a COD series game to sell under 1 million copies while still releasing it on the appropriate consoles and prices?

Why so much CoD coverage as of late especially today. You had 15 or so CoD postings today.

I'm beginning to wonder about the concept of DLC. It used to be that DLC meant optional content that could add TO a game. But with ME, BF: BC 2, and now most recently, DE: HR, the policy seems to have gone from optional content, to content that would actually affect someone's decision to BUY the game. Most recent is Deus Ex, who's nagging irritation is that you cannot reset your augmentations once you get them, and now, a few weeks after release, we're seeing plans for DLC to allow that, if we pay more for it. My question of the week is this:

With instruction booklets that tell you nothing about the game anymore and strategy guides that give that instruction at $15-$30 a pop, game makers fighting to keep tips and tricks that actually matter off free sites like Youtube, and DLC that dramatically alters the original playstyle of the game, have we come to a new, HIDDEN price hike, that the game companies are using to avoid just adding in this content in the first place?
