Details about Battlefield 3's co-op mode have been sparse as developer DICE has kept quiet on the subject. But thanks to the Jr. Product Manager at DICE, Tommy Rydling, their silence has finally been broken. BF3's co-op will have a pick-up and play gameplay style, similar to the way they have built BF3's muliplayer. It will be important to stick together, "You fight together. You die together. And you score together."
"For the most part, the missions in the co-op campaign are asymmetric. This means that one mission can have you piloting a helicopter while your friend is the gunner, for example. Other situations have one player disarming a bomb and the other one defending him. Or (as you could see in our press conference play through at gamescom) you can do tandem kills to avoid detection. There are also other mechanics requiring teamwork, such as spotting enemies to make large firefights easier, or the essential concept of reviving one another to avoid ending up at the game over screen."
It sounds a lot like the way I played Battlefield: Bad Company 2's co-op in team missions like Capture the Base. I spent way too much time playing BF:BC2 so if my feelings are correct, I'm in. The way co-op mode is actually set up sounds like the team based co-op modes in SOCOM 4. Either way, I'm sold.
Battlefield 3 co-op will take place in the same world as single player. Co-op follows its own unique story though. Unlike in single player, you won't be assigned to any official rank or position in the Armed Forces. This was intentional; they want to make sure you'll be able to take on as many badass rolls as possible.
Battlefield 3 will be released on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on October 25, 2011.

There is no split screen for console because the game would require more tech than available. Dice released that info a week or two ago. And as for PC it's kinda hard to play split screen with one keybord and one mouse. Still sad they can't do it though

Battlefield 3 is a good game, no doubt about that, but offline split-screen is a must in today's FPS's. It is a really important feature that I look for in games, so that if buddies of mine come over, we can all enjoy the game together. For me, MW3 is the better game with friends, BUT Battlefield 3 is the better game overall.

This is to the people complaining about no split-screen the reason for it is because our systems are not powerful enough to be able to load the game two times, because that is what split-screen does. Take halo Reach for example it had 4 player split-screen, at first I was like sweet until I get into a long range multiplayer map and when i'm just by myself I can see across the whole level with 4 people on the same tv it cuts down on the draw distance and I was only able to see half as far as normal and that led to me being killed. I think it would be sweet for co-op they just can not do it if they don't want to reduce on the draw distance, graphics and other things.

well this sounds like something very good for those people who play co-op. i love co-op games also is the co-op going to be two players only. because is good in a way but what about the four player squad co-op from bfbc2. i hope this co-op does not end up being the spec ops from mw2

split screen is BA traditional style im sorry if i dont want to buy another xbox and tv just to play with the person sitting right next to me.
