Earlier this year at CES, Sony revealed a cool piece of tech with a lousy, lousy name. The "Headman" has thankfully dropped its somewhat off-putting moniker, but the tech is still as potentially sweet as it ever was, and it'll be available in Japan starting November 11, a press release confirms (via Engadget).
The HMZ-T1 is a Virtual Boy-like visor that offers standalone 3D entertainment without the need for any sort of special TV or glasses. It achieves this magic through the use of two built-in 0.7-inch OLED panels with a 1280x720 resolution. The effect created by looking through the visor is apparently analogous with viewing content on a 750-inch screen from more than 65 feet away. The visor also features built-in headphones with 5.1 surround sound support.
The HMZ-T1 requires that the visor be connected to an external processor that features HDMI In and Out ports. The device will retail for 60,000 yen, or slightly less than $800 USD.

Im sick and tired of 3d. 2009 is over, and avatar sucked IMO. the plot was basically pocahontas with blue people and space marines. that aside, consumers have seen through the gimmick 3d, and soon the failure of such devices will bring their development to a halt. we need something else to innovate on, because 3d has been around since the 60s.

Hold if I can use that with my PS3 and PC I am in! I will start bleeding out my eye balls now lol

Its nothing more than the old Headplay Personal Cinema System with Sony's name slapped on it so they could charge an extra $300.

It'd be really cool to slap a few ir-emitting diodes on the top and have a wiimote track your head.

Looks badass but of course only the upper class can afford something like this. Hopefully it will sell some units and Sony can make a version regular people can afford.
Playing FPS with these would be awesome, especially if the lenses wrap around the side of your eyes so you could see peripheral vision. And 3D gaming is awesome in my opinion. Sure it's a little intense on the eyes after a while, but it really draws you into the environment. I understand some people don't like it, but honestly most of those people probably haven't even tried it for more than 5 mins.
They need to make it bluetooth though, having it connected via a wire would be stupid, its hard to see in the pic, but it kind of looks like it is.

A year or two late I think.
Anyone I know really couldn't care less about 3D anymore, even my sister's bf who has been one of the biggest 3D fanboys has moved on now.
Even without that rediculous price tag it still would have been a tough sale, especially when most movie go-ers (in my experience) have a hard time justifying the spending of only a few measly $ more at the theatres for "3D" instead of 2D.

This seems kinda pointless..
rdddd
1. it will become outdated in 2 years
2. its $800....
3. last time someone tried to do something like this was Nintendo and it was the virtual boy....lol that failed and it also caused color blindness in some people, if you played it for a long period of time :O

really badass technology i say but just as everyone else is saying, 800 US dollars for this thing is too damn expensive.

I think this is definately cool I would look at one for a lower price, instead of a 3d tv. Especially for gaming cause while im watching a movie or tv I do like to see whats going on around me. But for games I'm completely zoned in and as long as I can talk to my friends with it on it's perfect.

lol like the simpsons in the southpark episode... Nintendo did it first lol

Guys?
They are obviously trying to make some money off this while they perfect the 3D technology. This is aimed squarely at high end early adopters, no one else, and most likely is expected to sell well in Japan, not so much in America.
Perhaps in 5 to 10 years or maybe more, this kind of technology will be commonplace, and Sony will have had a head start on manufacturing and research and development.
You've got to look at this from a business point of view, not from a "can I afford this on my college boy income?" point of view.
Just because it plays games 3D functionally, doesn't mean it is intended to replace your TV, or stop you from buying a nice Bravia 3D TV.
If your looking for the deal Sony is aiming at the broke college guy, look at the 499$ 3D TV that includes Resistance 3, includes 2 sets of 3D glasses, and will be able to play 2 different images on the full screen for different people playing multiplayer.
I wish people would think before they post "my opinion is the only opinion that matters" to an article.

I could see my self using this. It depends on what it dose, because my head is already flashing alot of weird things the Japanese can put into this thing.

Definitely an interesting piece of tech, that I don't think I'd consider getting until the 2nd gen. iteration of this comes out, or at least until this drops in price. I say this for 2 reasons; 1.) It's new tech, so there's gonna be issues with it. And 2.) It's 800 dollars! Need I say more!?

Looks like the .hack game world is coming to the real world sooner then we think. Very awesome.
