Star Wars The Old Republic is still currently slated for a 2011 release, but as of PAX last weekend we still don't have a release date. Regardless, at Gamescom 2011 we got a glimpse at BioWare's MMO masterpiece once again, and got to go in depth with the game's PVP and raid mechanics with Huttball and Operation Eternity Vault.
First there was the reveal of a new PVP warzone called Huttball. It was presented like a mix between American football and Rollerball, with players using their powers, however violent or devastating, to attain victory. The idea: grab an energy ball and pass and run it over the opposition’s outside line to score a goal. Curiously, at least to those more invested in the Star Wars canon than your author, the teams were mixed, meaning Siths could be paired against each other, as could Jedis.
Be sure to read our entire Star Wars: The Old Republic preview from Gamescom 2011 to learn more about Operation Eternity Vault, the end game level 50 raid.

Gosh Huttball might end up bringing back memories of playing lunch-time football from my school days! There's a fan-video opportunity for someone there; Yoda: "Offside, I was not!" *hurls away Bounty Hunter with his mind*

I know that they are saying holiday 2011, but it amazes me that we've heard nothing of character creation, little about space combat (the one video), limited PvP info, and almost nothing on how guilds will function within the game. I sure hope that they can get everything in place and get this thing out by November. The lack of release date is beyond frustrating for those that have been looking forward to this for so long.
