Nintendo established the 3DS Ambassador Program as an apology to all of those early adopters that picked up the newly released handheld for its original price of $250. Nintendo slashed that number to $170 earlier this month, and so it's offering 3DS early adopters -- or "Ambassadors" -- 20 free downloadable games.
The first of those games arrive on September 1, a list of 10 classic NES titles that Nintendo has now identified in full. This list is specific to Japan for now, though the few previously announced titles have been identical across multiple regions.
Your 10 free NES games are: Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda, Wrecking Crew, NES Open Tournament Golf, Yoshi, Metroid and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. The initial releases will be just the games and nothing more, though Nintendo intends to add features like save states and digital instruction manuals (for free) further down the road.

Metroid is all I care about. Saddened me when they did nothing for its 25th Anniversary.....

Nuts. The only game I don't have is Golf. And I already own the GBA remakes of both Zeldas.

Since it is free and I've never played any of the games (I started with the SNES) I will not complain and enjoy what I'm given.

What happen to Super Mario Bros 3, the rumors had it coming out. It's greatest NES game ever. Instead we get NES Golf. Really Nintendo, you had a great list of first party games to choose from. I would have tooken Super Mario 2, Kid Icrus, Kirby over NES Golf. But it's free and hopefully the gameboy advances are better.

yeah, i had a few friends that missed the ambassador program due to nintendo's lack of advertising

So the rumors Zelda 2 was one of them was true. hmmm, that gmae was so hard. Maybe once they add the cheap ass save system I can finally beat it.

What would be cool is if I could transfer my virtual console saves from my Wii to my 3DS for the games I already own (and do this wirelessly)

That's nice except for people like me who aren't on their 3DS every damn day missed the opportunity to register to become an "ambassador". The windows Nintendo offers to do stuff like this are ridiculously narrow... unless you check your DS every single day, you miss them. Now I'm even MORE pissed that I bought it at $250.

Looking forward to them! Not sure what Wrecking Crew is and I'm not exactly fond of Golf, but I'm willing to give them a try since they're free.
But I still wish I was lucky enough to own an NES back in the day. First thing my dad bought me was a SNES and that was when I turned 8. First video game system I ever owned (minus the Tiger Electronics handhelds I had...) and he would never get an NES. So this will definitely give me a chance to try out these games! Although I have played Super Mario Bros. because a neighbor owned it... but nothing else (minus Duck Hunt).
Why couldn't I have been an NES child. ;_;
