A downloadable content release for Epic Games' Gears of War 3, out September 20, is a foregone conclusion. Now though, Microsoft is offering super-fans a chance to pre-purchase a large chunk of it for a good value, thanks to the newly announced Season Pass.
Available the same day the game is released, the Gears of War 3 Season Pass entitles buyers to the game's first four DLC releases for 2400 MS Points, a 33 percent savings. The first DLC pack is arriving in November, with the other three rolling out "over the course of the next year."
All Season Pass buyers will also receive a bonus DLC pack, the Liquid Metal Weapon Set, which presumably allows you to paint your guns so that they look like a T-1000.

I don't like the season passes either. You don't really save anything when they tell you "this DLC is 2400 points, you will save 33% on buying them separately." In order to get 2400 points you either have to buy to 1600 points cards or buy one 4000 points card. In either case you have points left over. You have already paid Microsoft the money, you just get points, and you always have some left over you can't do anything with until you buy more points. I am not upset because I will still buy the season pass. I just think the dollar value cards Sony and Nintendo use are much better from the consumer point of view. Just my 2 cents.

Just for anyone who didn't know the DLC will be more than just maps, it includes Campaign and Horde/Beast content as well, Rod Fergusson announced it on his twitter

Gears Of War 3 so far looks awesome and I have to say its going to be one of best games out and I will buy the season because I love Gears Of War and I would like get some discount for the DLC can't wait for Gears 3 baby WOOOOOOO

The concept of the Season Pass is a step in the right direction for the Industry in combating the Used market by rewarding the original purchaser. However, it would have been better had the Season Pass been more of an incentive to purchase the game new by offering a 50%-75% discount. Hopefully, Sony and the publishers develop a "Season Pass" similar program but with more incentives by offering a 50-75% discount or even better free for being the original purchaser.

see for me im not sold on buying the Season Pass. For me, I would need to hear more of what's included. Is it all multiplayer maps? if it add-ons to the single player campaign? If it something kind of silly that should have been in the game at time of shipping (similar to the road to ruin dlc for Gears 2)? I personally need to hear more about whats included before I decide to throw down $30 on "Upcoming DLC". But on the flip side I also think its insane that they think they can sell DLC to those without the Season Pass for $45...

I'm a little conflicted on the whole idea of selling DLC before it's out. On one hand I think it's a great possible deal because most likely you would end up buying all the map packs for this game anyways. On the other hand that just sounds crazy. There's just not enough information on what the map packs will be to warrant buying them before seeing them. What if they decide to just redo more old maps from previous Gears games. The thing that really makes me wary is that the season pass is for the FIRST 4 MAP PACKS. I would have been better assured if they said all map packs.

You people complaining do realize you save money on this right? And it isn't just for multiplayer, they Epic said they would like to do more campaign DLC (along with multiplayer) this time around.

They can take their greedy season pass and shove it. The DLC for GOW series is utterly pointless Multiplayer based. Nice that they announce this before the game is even released. Obviously leaving off parts of the game just to charge more for it later. This is why I am getting sick of the current gaming industry.

I really can't complain all too much about games that decide to offer up season passes. I thought it was just a money trap for gamers, until I picked up the Mortal Kombat Season Pass. You save money overall by buying the pass over the purchasing all the DLC seperately, especially if your a fan of that particular game.
I'm assuming that the DLC for Gears 3 will be map packs just like in gears 2, and maybe even a bonus mission in campaign or something. Either way, I'll just pony up the dough for the season pass and save me the trouble of having to buy everything seperate.

I dont know, i am not much into buying DLC. Many of them i find them to be waste of money, and due to the fact that is only map, i care little for them. I can have just as much fun with the preloaded maps.
