Bethesda's Pete Hines has confirmed that gay marriage is possible in Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. The news comes, like all news these days, from a tweet. In response to a twitterer's question which suggested Bethesda was being "hush hush" about gay marriage, Hines posted:
"Not hush hush, just not making a huge deal out of it. You can marry anyone."
That's not to say that you can marry any NPC. This isn't Fable, people. Instead, it means guys can marry guys and ladies marry ladies. What's next? Nords marrying Bosmer? (Presumably, that's possble too.)
I totally applaud Bethesda's decision to allow gay marrying in Skyrim, and the fact that they're not making a big deal about it says something about how far we've come, as a culture, on the issue of gay acceptance. RPG characters, like humans, deserve the happiness (and/or misery) that marriage can bring, no matter their orientation. Much like real life, we shouldn't worry about who other people love when there are dragons to be slain.
All of the best people are following Stephen Johnson's twitter feed. Also, email me if you wanna.

I dunno I could be wrong but if theres no point to this adding to the gameplay insentives than whats the point? This would be on the same level as barbie doll dressing your character in a GTA game.Though it seems like a cool idea to see a lesbian marriage in video game it really just is'nt needed if its just used as a time killer.

You know, I almost think it's a little out of place here...
I'm not against it, but it is one of those things that made me tilt my head when I first saw the headline. Yeah, I'm all for gay marriage, it just feels a little out of place in a game like Skyrim...
Whatever... Bethesda, you know what you're doing more than I do... it's your game, go nuts.

First New York, now Skyrim, what other fanciful land will be next to adopt the change? I think Link will finally come out of the closet and Hyrule will be it.

Jesus christ, People didn't care at all when it was fable. Now it's a unholy abomination cause it is in Skyrim. Get over yourselves

I've always wanted there to be marriage ever since Oblivion. If there was any.. I didn't get to try it out.
But I wish we had more details about the marriage in Skyrim in general (Heterosexual and Homosexual) 'cause I want to know what's special about it.
Is it by a quest? do you get to do missions with your Spouse?
I'm kinda confused since you can't marry any of the NPCs... so who is there to marry? o.o
so many questions xD
Can't wait for Skyrim!

Wow so shocking how mature the internet is taking all this. Jesus Christ guys, It doesnt say you have to be gay in the game. If you want to you can, same way bioware does with their games. (Except swtor)

Can our in-game spouses be customizable "Create a Character" too?! If so, I am making me and my wife in the game and we shall slay dragons together.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. There's MARRIAGE in Skyrim? I'm all for gay rights and all that, but you kind of buried the lead on this one, Johnson. The closest thing to a relationship in Oblivion was you and your horse (armor). The most sexual thing was Patrick Stuart's voice sensuously massaging my ear-holes. Well, regardless, the old Ball-and-Chain better not nag when I go on week-long looting excursions. As far as inter-species relations goes, I'm sure a lore expert can clue us in on the specifics, but I would guess a horse/donkey/mule situation.
Oh, and I just thought of something: Will there be children in the game at all? It seemed weird that every couple in the first game didn't have little ones running around.

I am a gay guy and very excited that another gaming company is promoting equality in a game.
If being gay is a choice then using logic being a heterosexual is a choice. So we all choosing what is good for us. I am happy that people are choosing loving non harming options.
For the record, I do not believe sexual orientation is a choose. Scientific studies prove that heterosexual and homosexual occurs naturally.

Sweet!

Even better... now its going to be a happy game..

Morally, this world doesn't except certain lifestyles and but allows others. This is merely relative to the current moral state of the world. Hypocrisy. If everyone has a choice, who's rights are to be infringed? In ~100 years pedophilia, polygamy, and other currently morally unacceptable lifestyles will be accepted. I do not endorse any of these. Hate me all you want. Heterosexuality is the way the humans are intended to reproduce. Homosexuality is not genetics, its a lifestyle--chosen.
