Valve did a cool thing for the PlayStation 3 release of Portal 2 in offering players a free Steam copy of the game as well as cross-platform features like online play and voice chat. The company hopes expand that first effort with the release of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, bringing the same sort of functionality to the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game as well.
"The main thing is having Microsoft get comfortable with it and let us do it," Valve boss Gabe Newell told Eurogamer. The Xbox 360 is well-known within the industry for the extended certification process involving all things Live-related.
"Right now, there's a huge amount of updates and free content we've been able to deliver to people who have The Orange Box that we haven't been able to deliver to the Xbox because of the restrictions that have been placed on us on Xbox Live," Newell said. He hopes things can change before the release of CS:GO, as I'm sure many of us do as well.

I don't think it'll happen. A) There's Windows LIVE and B) LIVE is a closed system. MS barely likes people to create Indy titles, let alone allowing a whole sub-network on LIVE that MS would have no control over. Sound good in theory though. And it's possible to MS to warm up to the idea.. but again, what would be the point? it's would be like GameStop allowing OnLive coupons to be added to the games they sell..

I wonder if the PC gamers can play against the console gamers cause the latter will get owned by the PC gamers. Keyboards and mouse beats controllers anyday and PC gamers have years of experience playing CS.

the reason there is so much certification on Live is due to security.. we pay for a premium service and get premium security I would rather it stayed like this and took a while longer for titles to be cross platform than to crack it wide open and end up hacked like the PS3

I want to believe. But i doubt it as MS already has Windows live gaming. I think we will see PC/360 on windows live before we will ever see it with steam :[

This has GOT to happen. Make it happen Xbox LIVE and MS.

how bout 360 vs ps3 vs PC integrate all of them, fanboys could settle (or fuel ) their rage in a game counter strike.

if MS is smart they will OK this. I guarantee Sony giving Valve steam integration was why they went from "We will never develop for that console" to "Sure, ok". Keep snubbing them and we may start seeing PS3 exclusive Valve games. But MS's compass always points due Money and often leaves the brain going south (see, the champions debacle, or HD DVD).

I would like to see PS3/360 support because at least the two would be on equal footing. Playing a shooter 360 Vs. PC will be total hell for any 360 fan who is not great at shooters. A good PC fan w/ a mouse and keyboard will beat a great 360 fan w/ a gamepad/controller more often then not.

Off topic, but CS: GO makes me think about the band OK GO.
Yeah, I don't think that'll happen. Live is MS's golden goose and they're pretty Apple about having tight-fisted control of it.
Personally, Counter Strike, for me, will always be PC, so it's no skin off my nose if MS wants to be a grump and not allow Valve to work with their XBL customers.

I would be surprised if Microsoft O.K.'s this because the main thing driving Xbox sales now is that all your friends have one. Because they have a weak game line up but all of yours friends have it thats why you buy one. That's the reason I think PS3 sales are going to charge this holiday, because once some of your friends have the PS3 you are going to see them playing the exclusives and your going to want one. (I'm talking children mostly, They will just ask their parents, and they will get one.)
