Razer, the high end PC gaming peripheral company has kicked off their "PC gaming is not dead" campaign with an ad in the Wall Street Journal, as well as promo site complete with countdown timer on pcgamingisNOTdead.com. The company promises to revolutionize PC gaming on August 26, the first day of PAX Prime 2011 in Seattle, Washington. The ad in the Wall Street Journal is addressed to "our friends Xbox, PlayStation and Wii", insisting that "rumors of [PC gamers] untimely demise have been greatly exaggerated". We're thinking it has something to do with the Switchblade, one of the most impressive devices to come out of CES 2011.
Here's the description of the official PC Gaming is Not Dead panel from PAX Prime:
Join Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan for a live presentation of Razer's new, groundbreaking project for PC Gamers worldwide. If you were impressed with Razer's Switchblade concept, which won the Best of CES 2011 People's Voice Award, wait until you get a load of what Razer has in store for you at PAX Prime. Don't miss this opportunity to experience first-hand, the hottest thing to redefine the industry. The official worldwide announcement will be made during this session at PAX Prime, and don't miss your chance to win epic Razer gear! Q&A session to follow the presentation.
Whatever it is, it sounds like it's going to be a big deal. Read on to see the full ad that was in the Wall Street Journal.

Honestly, there's no need for Razer to kick console gamers in the shins, nor is there a reason for Razer to declare PC gaming is dead anymore. That ship has sailed, and, frankly speaking, there have been many amazing PC games that have come out lately and will continue to come out in the future. The relatively new PC exclusive League of Legends has 15 million subscribers, and new multiplatform games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution are undoubtedly better on the PC. So while Razer's new device certainly may be the next thing to bring PC gaming to a new level, it doesn't exactly need to resurrect anything.
Personally I'm guessing Razer will be releasing their own line of high end PCs or just giving us new info on the Switchblade, which is a rather remarkable device as you can see from our hands-on demo with it. What do you think the peripheral company has in the works, and are you a fan of their glowing products?

Its not dead as long as you don't mind playing with racist red necks who are playing in their mom's basement. smh.... I wonder why i never hear these racist comments in person. Always seems to come online behind the safety of their computers :-)...

Allowing PC gamers to be able to play with/against console gamers online. Would be awesome but probably won't happen.

PC games in my opinion were never dead to begin with, i am a big gamer and i play PC, Handheld, and console, and a a lot of the time with emulators out on the internet where u can play old school NES, Snes games all the way up to being able to play PS3 and X Box 360 games (roms) on the computer. I think its all around pretty even on how many ppl play wat game, some ppl play more console maybe because their comp is on the fritz, while other play more PC because there console it having an overheating problem, or something wore out on it. So for someone to say pc gaming inst dead is like telling someone internet explorer doesn't suck, its something everyone pretty much knows already.

I have to agree that this could just be marketing. It's big business. It's how it works. I dont think PC gaming is really dead either. It sure has dropped a bit it seems, in relativity to consoles. But there are many PC gamers out there. My rig is about 5 years old now so it's time to build a new one. I havent done much PC gaming in the past year or so, save for Mass Effect 2.
I do hope PC gaming remains alive and well. I wish the same for consoles. We are, all gamers.

The PC gaming world is large, but without consoles, the software market would be much slimmer. Nintedo,Sony and Xbox help to continue big name Publishers/Developers stay in business.

PC gaming is only dead in the retail space, but the digital downloads services still has it kicking. But by no stretch of the imagination is it dead. It's simply a smaller percentage of the gaming pie when compared to consoles then it used to be now that casual gaming is in. Basically, PC gaming is the Kool-Aid mix and the water is number of gamers. What happens when you put in more water but no more Kool-Aid mix? It becomes diluted, it's still there, but it just doesn't look as extravagant as it used to.

The only reasons i would want a Gameing Pc would be for Skyrim, Stronghold3, fallout3 and maybe Halo 2 and well... thats not worth the costly software mostly because i can play skyrim on the xbox360 and i alrighty played the S!@# out of fallout3. So in the end not worth the price to get something alittle better for 10x more the price.

I love PC gaming. PC games have so much more eye candy and have a lot more customization; however, PC gaming is expensive. Unless you buy a 100 plus dollar part(s) you will be unable to experience the game to the fullest on that PC it could in fact be unplayable, and I do agree with other users that PC games are a lot more tied down in the end requiring internet to play when it isn't an MMO ect...PC gaming is variable. Depending on the system you play on will change you experience. With a console you are guarantee the same graphical quality and play-ability for the 5 or 10 years that they will be out.

That's right you consoles fanboys who prefer dumbed down games and who find installing and modding too complex, PC gaming is not dead, so shut your faces.

one of the problems is the big companies like EA, Ubisoft, Codemasters, and others who make games for games for the consoles and pc. when they make a pc game they make so I can only install and uninstall 2 times, or make it so that I have to have a be connected to the internet just to play a game ( eg..splintercell, bioshock). especially if the game is not a MMO. to me that is just shady. another thing that makes me mad is when pc companies release a game to the marked that has a patch out either before or the same day the game is released to try to fix problems that should have been fixed before releasing it. ya I am talking about you "Rainbow 6 Vegas". the rules of gaming development should have the same integrity as food production. if you wouldn't eat it; please don't serve it to other people. another way the pc market would thrive is if the developers would stop trying to make a game require the tech that is only available to the public 10 yrs from now, that is only playable on the lowest graphics. then they feel they have the right to complain about PC sales. the way I see it if I make a game that only my development team or the owners can play; then yes I will end up losing money, cause the last time I checked the owner and development team will never go to the store to purchase their game when they can get it for free. ya damn right I said it. listen don't het it twisted. I love console gaming and I love pc gaming. I know that there are console owners who have never touched a pc unless it was to go on you-tube or look for porn, think I am complaining for nothing, and all I have done id proved there point that pc gaming is dead. we shall see how much you smile, when they make console games that require a internet connection just to play it. Just remember this a computer is what is used to make a console game. A console can't make games; it only allows others to enjoy what a PC has created. so in the words of Antonio Banderas " Lts Play".

MMOs and the ability to mod is what is keeping PC gaming afloat. once consoles manage to get their foot in the door on those two things that'll be it. only greedy and laziness have kept it from happening already (i'm looking at you MS and that whole champions debacle)

10 Years ago I was a huge pc gamer. Stayed up late many a nite playing BF1942 and the BF1942 DC Mod. I stopped when the 360 came out. PC gaming to expensive....also WAAAAAAAAAAY more cheaters/hackers. It wont die but Im done with it.

That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die.

Until consoles can keep up instead of having games produced for them that are pushing the envelope, from 5 years ago, then I'll gladly enjoy the eye candy, depth and precision that comes from PC gaming.

my friend just bought me a Razer mouse. I love my friend.

I like how the fact that they clearly state "console and pc gamers will stand side by side as gamers in arms", is overlooked completely and instead is viewed as "kicking console gamers in the shins".... lol. I believe the underlying theme of this article was missed completely... ALL gaming doesn't mean just PC. It's not about splitting the sects it's about uniting them...
There will always be those that claim one is superior to the other, in the end, we are all gamers. Though I primarily play on PC, I also own consoles, and a Mac (which in itself is just a PC, sorry Mac fanatics). They each have their pros and cons and one isn't "better" than the other they are just different. Some are preferred more than others, depending on who you talk to, but that's based on individual likes, dislikes, needs and means. The "feud" over it however is just petty. Whatever is in the works though, it's of course going to be awesome, because it's Razer, and that's just what they do. For gamers, by gamers. People forget they cater to the console market as well... not just PC.
