How's this for irony: Upcoming war game Battlefield 3 will allow gamers to browse multiplayer servers in-game, but only if they're playing the console versions. To switch servers, PC gamers will have to exit a game totally to find a new server.
At the heart of the issue is Battlefield's Battlelog system. Along with keeping track of stats and whatnot, Battlelog will feature as BF 3's server browser, meaning you'll have to go back to the Battlelog in order to switch out of a game that is not to your liking. Console gamers, on the other hand, will be able to check out other servers while they're in-game.
Here's how BF3's senior gameplay designer Alan Kertz described it on his twitter feed:
Battlelog IS the PC main menu. You go straight from Battlelog to playing. No splash screens, no menus. Just straight to the playing.
Battlefield 3 drops for PC, PS3 and 360 on October 25 in the US.
