Apple is working on another iPad. You really don't need to hear it from me to know that. The device's guts and release timeframe remain the subject of much speculation, but a new report from The Wall Street Journal offers a little bit of info on both.
The iPad 3 will reportedly sport a 9.7-inch screen (same as the previous models) and a resolution of 2048x1536, literally doubling the 1024x768 display capabilities of the previous two models. The news is attributed to an unnamed source and Apple offered no comment, but the company has apparently received shipments of "small quantities of components" from its suppliers for a 9.7-inch device.
You probably don't need this to be spelled out, but a doubled resolution means we'll be able to look at prettier games on the tablet. The CPU and on-board memory will be critical in determining just how complex those games can be, but it certainly won't hurt to give developers twice the number of pixels to work with.

I wouldn't mind the constant updates if Apple actually listened to consumers and put features in that they purposefully hold off on so they can parcel them out with each new update. One of the several reasons I haven't bought an ipod/touch is the fact that they will always withhold features so they can put out newer models.

@Fishypants- Wow, take it down a few notches. Not that serious. Really don't understand all the aggression in your typing??
Like I said before, There is a feeling of inadequacy and frustration with the consumer, when they spend hundreds of dollars on a product after being told how great it is, only for a FEW MONTHS later to have something bigger and better be released with the same name, from the same company. If this was about the ipad then a great device from another company like android comes out that's one thing. But from the same company??
Take a chill pill dude, this is just a comment board

I love my iPad 1. Got all the manuals for my music studio in iBooks. I can get to my email in 3 seconds and without having to book up my PC and log on to my email. Loves the music study apps and the music and drawing apps, so I can be creative any time. Love the large screen for watching movies out of town or on a larger TV with the adaptor? Etc, etc,... I still used my desktop and laptop, but for overall convenience the primal iPad still works and is still great for my needs.
Don't know why people feel they need to update everything every month.

I think the point that allot of us naysayers have is that if a console manufacturer did this they would be out of business. So how is it that Apple can do this and come up roses every time.
It is true that they do not force you to buy their products every year, but for some reason enough people do. If millions of people didn't have to one up each other all the time maybe they would change their business model.
The over success of Apple is not their fault. The business model that they have been implementing has made them excessive amounts of money. They should be commended for the success of their company.
But what does that say about us?

Once again, the stupidity level of the internet astounds me.
How can an updated product ever be a bad thing? You guys act like its some kind of personal insult when Apple comes out with the next model of i Device. What do you want? them to just sit around and do nothing? In a world where tech improves everyday you think the worlds most profitable company is kick back and ignore it?
Sure if you all ready own an iPad 1 or 2 there is no reason to go out and get a new one.
Its just like if you own a 2011 car their is no good reason to go out an buy a 2012 model or if you all ready own a 360 or PS3 Fat there is no reason to buy a slim.
However, there have to be at least one or two million people who don't already own an iPad but are planning on getting one. Why should they have to buy last years tech when a slightly better model can be made?
Its only the pathetic people who somehow link their ego to having the "newest" stuff that are pissed. We'll, only the ones who are too poor to actually keep up, the rest just go out and buy one every six months.
As for me? I'm happy with my first generation shuffle and my second generation iTouch. If either of them every break I'll go out and buy whatever the latest version is and be glad for it.

I'll get an Ipad when Apple listens to its consumers and provides flash support on their devices.

2012 *cough cough chuckle* Ive been hearing they plan to start releasing the yearly ipads (starting with 3) with the yearly ipod updates that means this september.
rdddd
why buy a tablet? they get outdated in like 2 months........

@superalex- Good point. But that doesn't change the fact that it's a little bit of a burn to consumers when you spend money on what you think is the latest and greatest only to have a new even better version comes out the following week. Does that mean you have to go out and buy it, no, but why even release one model when the newer model will be out within 6 months?? Just wait until the best model is completed and just release that one. Instead of making consumers feel as if they're always behind the curve.
We see it with capcom and their street fighter games. The fans wants the latest one, so when they buy it, they can't help but get pissed to find out a newer better version is coming out making yours look out dated. The Best Buy commercial with the guy who bought a 3D tv, only to see a 4D tv being delivered next door best describes this feeling of inadequacy.

I know better Apple, if I go tablet I'm getting the ASUS one that can act like a laptop/netbook. Actually I'll just stick with my netbook.

I usually jump on the "I Hate Apple" bandwagon too, but I'm going to pass this time. No one is forcing you to buy an iPad 3 (or iPad 2 even). If the device does what you want it to do, why upgrade? It's not like there's going to be some killer app that requires the new iPad.
There was a time that I would upgrade my PC (or build a new one) every year-and-a-half, but now the PC I built three years ago still hasn't met a game that doesn't run well -- so I haven't upgraded.
This strikes me as the same idea. If you need a tablet now, but an iPad 2. If you can wait, THEN WAIT!. Regardless, whining about it changes nothing.

Now we get to watch everyone go nuts for the thing all over again, even though they'll just play Angry Birds on it for four months before the iPad 4 comes out.

I like all these comments. Whats the point in buying an ipad when a new comes out next year? Whats the point in buying a new car? How about a new TV?
How about your pc? Camera. Stereo. Clothes. Household appliances...........

OMG here is a real SHOCKER apple the activision of hardware

Hey early adopters, how you liking those iPads now?

I think Steve needs to watch a little South Park. Cause he will never get any of my money the way he re-invents the wheel every year. Guess what Steve, it still rolls like the one you made last year, it might be prettier with a new coat of paint, but it still flipping rolls.
Success like Apple is the heart and soul of capitalism. But it seems like Apple is getting a little greedy these days.

Actually by doubling the dimensions, you "quadruple" the area... Therefore you are getting %400 the pixels that the iPad 1 and 2 had... But you are just a journalist, so I can tell geometry is no your strong suit
