Here's a rather odd promotion. Those who pre-order Deus Ex: Human Revolution for PC over Valve's Steam digital download service will get some sweet, new gear in their Team Fortress 2 backpacks. It's an interesting twist on the idea of a retailer-specific bonus, since not many other retailers also make games.
Hear that, EA? If you want me to shop at Origin, just throw a lightsaber bonus into Battlefield 3 with all Star Wars: The Old Republic pre-orders.
The Deus Ex/TF2 bonus includes eight items in all, four weapons and four cosmetic items. You can see all pictures and stats for the new items at the Team Fortess website, so check it out.

My Engineer has a shiny new shotgun, a weird electricity gun and a Pip-boy, all genuine quality :D
Also Valve is implementing the beta for Steam Trading, you can trade these items for games with other players!!!

Got the Steam version prepurchased last month (10% off still). Hope they add some extra stuff, but for 44.99 I cant complain.

It's worth noting that this stuff it droppable and craftable.
You don'T actually have to buy the game to get them but it will take several years for them all to drop.

Team fortress 2 is the best thing since sliced bread. And I only say that because I would be looked down upon for putting hats on my slice bread.

Makes sense with the popularity of TF2. Plus, since it's Valves service they can offer up whatever they want as a promotional tool for their own games, kinda genius. It would make allot less sense if no connection could be made between the game, the free stuff, or the download service. Let's say for instance you downloaded Portal 2 and got a free weapon for COD. That would make no sense, but in this case it does.

Read up on the items late Thursday, some very interesting concepts and they don't look half bad either. Surprisingly enough, the SPUF forums don't seem to be too uppity over the new additions either, most likely I'm guessing because some of them are happy the engineer got some new toys to play with (though I could just be underestimating how many people have actually seen them so far since they were implemented a bit later in the day).
But I digress, I really want those items for the heavy and spy, I'm sure the cosmetic items will hold a lot of value to those who get their hands on them.

You're right, I remember the Brink one now. From Dust though? Really? Awesome. I totally missed that.

Yeah, this is not even remotely new. It's not even the best example of it. Welcome to the now, population: everyone but you!

actually valve has been doing this for like a year... you get tf2 items when you pre ordered red orchestra 2, from dust, rift, fallout 3, Brink, killing floor, left4dead2, ect.
