All that you really need to know is right there in the headline: Hothead Games awesomely titled action-RPG The Baconing, DeathSpank's third thong-driven adventure, is coming to Xbox Live Arcade on August 31. The PlayStation Network release arrives the day before, as part of Sony's Summer of Arcade-like PLAY series.

The Baconing is the first of the DeathSpank games to be released after Ron Gilbert, of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion fame, left Hothead for a gig at Tim Schafer's Double Fine. Will Gilbert-less DeathSpank be as funny as its predecessors? Will the new game be less repetitive? Hopefully yes on both counts. We'll all get to find out in two weeks.

It's a shorter DLC game, so it's not unfeasible to produce them quickly. The problem only arises when you're paying $60 for a crappy annual rehash like CoD. I liked the first and haven't played the second yet. The third costs too much right now so I'll wait for a sub-$10 price.
