"The International", also known as the Dota 2 one million dollar tournament from GamesCom 2011 is starting today, and we'll have the live stream of the entire event, straight from Cologne, Germany. Sixteen of the world's top Dota teams will be competing for a chance at one of the largest prize pools in eSports history.
For those who aren't familiar with Dota 2, it is the sequel to the WarCraft 3 mod "Defense of the Ancients" which gave life to the entire moba genre that has been dominating the eSports scene lately with games like League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth. Dota 2 is being developed by Valve, with the help of one of the developers of Dota, Icefrog. The International will be the first time that Dota 2 has ever been shown to the public, and the competition will be fierce with this much money on the line.
The tournament will uses a group stage for the first day, which will feed into a winner and loser brackets for the following days.
All of the games will be commentated, so even if you've never seen Dota before, these professional commentators will keep you up to speed with play by plays on all of the action.

Have any of you scrubs actually played the FIRST Dota not the tournament edition done by the guys who did LoL but the actual DOTA? If so this plays exactly like that. Trust me just buy WC3 Frozen Throne and get DOTA + a bunch of other User Made Games for free. It's much better.

Dota was the only game i can remember that i actually couldn't stop playing even if i lost. Yeah LoL is good but your really can't play a lot of champions differently cause of all the AD AP specific spells and they also don't have the epic items Dota has. I will buy this game when its ready because i really miss playing all those crazy item builds like Lothars edge Tiny.

Well its Dota copycat + LoL graphics ...... it didn't quite stunned me. The gameplay seems slow just as someone below commented, 15 min no towers down :(. I dont get that felling when u last hit creeps, its to rigid. Honestly i prefer HoN over Dota 2. S2 did improve dota with some hero modifications and gameplay mechanics. So if its not Free2Play i dont see why i should buy it when I already posses HoN.

I have a few issues with the game that is different from Dota one.
First the game has been on for 15 mins and no towers are down, this could be the teams playing, but is really bothering me that after 15 mins it looks like the first 2 mins being played.
The color and character built, I remember Dota, and the characters are so different from the minions and spells I can easily catch which one is a Hero... but I notice the minion kinda over shadows the smaller hero.
The color of the map... everything is dark and the trees... Maybe I been playing LOL for too long but everything looks brighter and cleaner on LOL than Dota 2.
Anyone agree or is it just me?

Hmmmm. Gonna have to admit, while Dota 2 looks visually impressive, I don't think they've done enough to improve it mechanically over DotA. I'm afraid to say that unless there is a lot more that I'm missing or unless it's Free2Play, I'll probably stick with LoL.

lol at all the Pauses and lag issues. I see one of the top teams losing because of this in the near future where one kill makes the difference. Then I will lol so hard because this proves that no matter what, you do not play a 1million dollar tourney on a game that has not been seen by the general public. also on servers that have not been tested with thousands of people playing on it.

LOL i am watching right now and the game is lagging out, One team is getting pwned not even putting up a defense while Lag is the only thing saving them iG vs Home

Super stoked. Havent played dota in years but got into LoL recently. Gonna be fun to watch the best in the world play this out.
