To close out their GamesCom 2011 press conference, Sony has announced a price drop for the PlayStation 3 that will bring down the price to $249 globally, effective immediately. As there are numerous PS3 models, we're not sure if they will all be seeing this $50 price drop, or just the 160 GB model. As we get more details on the price drop, we'll let you know.
With this news, will you be going out and picking up a new PS3 slim for a whopping fifty bucks cheaper?

i've put this off for far too long-- finally getting one on payday.
not just for the games (little big planet, uncharted, motorstorm, ico/shadow of the colossun hd], but for the blu-ray player as well.

Sweet move for Sony ,this will boost sales for the Sony Play Station 3 because the sale holiday is around the corner and new games just for the Sony Play Station 3 are going on to it this X-mas.Well I am not going to say anything negative about the X-Box 360,but maybe Gears of War 2 will make me want to buy a X-Box 360 just for that game.And the price drop will boost sales for the Play Station 3 world wide as well and I agree ,please bring back the backwards compatibly for the PS3 Sony,please! :~)

I got a 160 GB PS3 slim about 8 months ago for $249.99 and it came with 2 games. I guess i got a really good deal, but I do remember that i saw a lot of stores having the PS3 at $249.99 when i got mine. So i don't really understand why this took so long to be officially changed. I thought $249.99 was the normal price for it already.

Before I ever buy a PS3, 2 things must happen first.
1. I must upgrade from Xbox 360 Elite to a 360 Slim.
2. Sony must change the controller. The PS3 controller feels too light and the left thumb stick is in a stupid spot. They need to switch the positions of the D-Pad and the left thumb stick. The triggers feel pretty awkward too and I feel they should change that too.
Only then will I buy a PS3

Looks like I might finally buy a PS3 for the holidays this year and stock up on the good exclusive games they have. Get the used deals and wait before I buy any of the awesome games that will be coming out in the next couple months. To many games for a hard working American to play this fall! Gonna be back logged until the end of the world, HA.

It's kinda nice being a US gamer, since folks in Europe, Japan and Australia get pretty screwed on prices. 25,000 yen is more like $325 USD and 249 Euro is closer to $360. Ouch.

I love my PS3, but I wish they had a different motto. "It only does everything" is misleading when it can't do some of the same things as it's competition can.

Good move $ony! (but maybe late) This should be a must buy for any current xbox-only players, just for the Blu Ray and being able to play Uncharted alone.

Well, am getting myself another PS3 as back-up. Actually I never see this coming, as the PSVita at launch is the same price point. Nevertheless, am gonna get the Vita as well :)

Some of you guys are greedy as hell. 250 bucks for a ps3 is more than reasonable. I wish I only paid 250, I got mine for 4 hundy a few years back.
