Xbox Live Rewards Glitch Doles Out Free Microsoft Points

Xbox Live Rewards Program Launches

Are you signed up for Xbox Live Rewards, the free-to-join Microsoft service that awards Xbox 360 users with MS Points to reward certain online activities? If so, you might want to sign on and check out MS Points total. A glitch in the system was apparently handing out multiple duplicate reward bonuses as recently as yesterday (via Eurogamer).

It's not clear yet how Microsoft is responding, beyond working to fix the glitch, that is. The company's support Twitter feed told multiple users yesterday early on that the points were theirs to keep. That story later changed (see here) to those extra points being recalled, though there's no word yet from Microsoft regarding what will happen with those points that have already been spent. One thing you can bet on: XBL Rewards membership is going to spike today.
