Sony has detailed the new features to be added in firmware update version 3.70, which will be available "soon." For PlayStation Plus users, Automatic Download is transforming into Automatic Update, which will automatically back up save game data. You'll simply need to set it up for the game in question in its options menu. Trophies will auto-sync as well.
Also new with 3.7 is a new recommendations feature for the PlayStation Store which allows users to send messages about a particular game or video to PSN friends. In short, Sony has made it more convenient for you to help sell its products. For no pay. Kickass, right?
The XMB will also receive a new category called TV/Video Services, which is where you'll find all of your apps for services like Netflix and Hulu Plus. New apps can be downloaded from there while a My Channels folder keeps it all in one place.
Those with 3D TVs get some added support as well, but its pretty minimal stuff. Java-based Blu-ray special features will now play in 3D and new audio formats are supported. 3D digital photos (MPO format) will also now be viewable in your photo gallery.
In addition, Sony confirmed that the version 6.60 firmware update is coming soon to the PlayStation Portable as well, though the changes it brings are "minor."

Exactly. If I want to play my MP3's or go on the net, we all have PC's for that. Putting this on the PS3 is redundant and a waste of space. Movies are total crap, I wish that market would fold already. FB? Garbage and more liable for identity theft than the PSN downtime non-issue.
Besides, when gamers talk about consoles it's always about the games. What kind of idiot is going to 'brag' about getting Netflicks or other DL'ed movies, sports shows, a flunky browser, or that other nonsense?

The ONLY important thing that is different from the Xbox and Playstation is the Blu-Ray. Who cares about internet, facebook, or ESPN on your console...That is what your computer is for. Until they come out with a feature where you can play your game and browse the internet at the same time, internet on a console is simply extra junk.

Now if only there were a better way to output game audio (like through a headset which can only do voice chat atm). Maybe Sony will actually update their browser to something that actually works instead of using Internet Explorer 6.

Another cool feature is this update now allows audio export through usb. So now any usb stereo headsets will work along with the new official PS3 one coming out soon.

Could this be a bigger waste of time? Useless updates are your largest flaw Sony. It drove me from the PSP and makes me reconsider how long to wait on your next platform. Do not need, do not want. PS3 is for GAMES, nothing else is desirable.
