It's fitting that a massively multiplayer RPG like DC Universe Online is beefing up its network capabilities by migrating over to MegaServers. Even just the word, "MegaServer," sounds like some robotic super-villain's hideout. The switch starts today and will continue throughout the week, Sony Online Entertainment revealed on the game's website.
It sounds like the key advantage to using these MegaServers is making everything bit bigger. You'll see many more people running around on a given server, which also means there's a larger pool to draw co-op pals from. The Broker will also now offer more items.
PvP and PvE areas will now be divided into different Phases, which players can switch between by using a Phase Shifter, located in the Watchtower and Hall of Doom. A new command will also allow players to phase together between modes if they so wish.
The switch begins today in Europe with the PC version of the game. Pc and PlayStation 3 conversions will follow in the U.S. on August 10 and August 11, respectively. European PS3s come last, on August 15. Expect 10 to 14 hours of downtime while your particular region is being migrated.

They should just switch to free to play and work with micro-transactions

With the mega servers, the hope is that it will be easier to queue up for end game content, and also there is a hope it will repopulate the open world, where much of teh original in game PVP used to happen.

I have been a member since Beta, and this game is less a traditional MMo and more of an actiony fighting gamewith basic MMo structure. It's based more on the combo system as well as Dodging, and less on traditional "stand here and click on my power tabs".
That being said, you can max out level in a rediculously short time, and once you hit level 30, you just end up doing harder versions of the same missions you have already done.
Unlike a traditional MMo there is no reason to stay in game more than a couple hours at a time, especially if you have already done it all a million times. I mainly only log in to hang with League mates.

The size limits of their servers wasn't the problem. It was the fact that the servers were near empty lol.
Making them bigger just makes more empty space.

I haven't played this game in a month or so, been looking for a good reason to get back in to it. With all the DLC and such coming out this may be the right time after they're done migrated to the MegaServers.
