This will not come as a shock to anyone who pays attention to how the game industry and/or Capitalism work, but Eurogamer is reporting that Borderlands 2 is in development at Gearbox. Shocking, I know, that a game company would follow up a successful video game with a sequel, but it is reportedly happening.
Gearbox head Randy Pitchford has been slightly cagey when asked about Borderlands 2 in the past, hinting that the game was coming. Specifically, Pitchford has said:
"We've only announced what we've announced. If we haven't announced it, it doesn't exist." and "Plans and efforts towards the future always exist with a forward looking studio like Gearbox, of course, but brainstorming and blue sky research and development should never be allowed to be construed into a customer promise. A customer promise should not be made until that promise becomes sufficiently clear and ready and the commitment is there to deliver upon the promise."
During another interview, Pitchford said:
"I'm sure Duke [Nukem] will have some demands of me and I've gotta work on Borderlands 2, right?"
If anyone out there would like to make a bet about Borderlands 2, I'm ready to stake my entire life savings (over 38 dollars!) on the speculation that Borderlands 2 exists, is coming from Gearbox, and will be officially announced at some point in the next 12 months.
Any takers? Anyone? Hello? Is this thing on? Beuller? Hello...?
