You have to appreciate the charming simplicity of the gameplay in Worms: two warring factions of the slithery little beasties take turns launching a startling array of firepower across a map, until one group or the other has been wiped out. It's the reason the games continue to be so popular and also why fans are sure to be excited about Team 17's newly announced Worms Ultimate Mayhem.
The fall 2011 release that's coming to Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and Steam takes two of the series' older titles-- Worms 3D and Worms 4: Mayhem -- and gives them an HD makeover as well as some new content. The whole package includes 60 single-player missions, 12 themes, 38 weapons and supports online play for up to four.
Team 17 head of design John Dennis also notes in the press release that Ultimate Mayhem will feature "a raft of improvements" to the gameplay, as well as "extra content, as suggested by fans." Expect "vastly improved camera functionality and voice-acted mission intro sequences, [as well as] all-new challenges and multiplayer maps."

I really do hope they're serious when they say "vastly improved camera functionality".

Both Worms and Worms 2 are available for download for Xbox Live Arcade.

perhaps they could be convinced to release the older versions on these platforms.... particularly Worms 2. i loved the weapon customization in that because it wasn't just one or four particular settings. you could customize everything about every weapon, making a minigun of stupidity and death. or a tactical customization where an air strike would drop one bomb but yield the same power of dynamite.
