Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 was just announced last week at Comic-Con as a budget priced stand alone game. It's now been revealed that UMvC3 was once planned to be DLC packs for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. There were several contributing factors at play when deciding to make UMvC3 its own game, factors like the Japanese earthquake in March and the health of people at Capcom.
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 will have its own DLC updates in the future. Bonus costumes and modes will be released after the game's launch in November.
Are you glad Capcom decided to release UMvC3 as its own game?

"Are you glad Capcom decided to release UMvC3 as its own game?"
Hell No.
It doesn't shock me in the least that Capcom's stock has plummeted 23% when they pull stunts like this one. What a load of crap.

I feel sympathetic for the Japanese, but coming from Capcom? BS.
Capcom are the SCUMBAGS of DLC distribution.

I love CAPCOM, but they are starting to become professional trolls. There was MaXplosion released on iOS that was a straight up clone of Splosion Man. Then the save file debacle for Resident Evil: The Mercenaries on 3DS. The much anticipated, yet bittersweet release of MvC 3 introduced Wii-derived new game play and lulz-inducing X Factor. And now here's Ultimate MvC 3, being released as a new title within 9 months, in the same calendar year and Shuma-Gorath and Jill Valentine are still DLC for right now. What's next, Darkstalkers is going to suffer the same fate as both MegaMan Universe and MegaMan Legends 3?

They should release the characters both ways. Sell DLC at $3 per character, or $30 for all of them. Or let people get the disc for $40. Giving consumers options never hurts, and it would help restore some faith in Capcom.

forget capcom all they do is charge and charge for things that shouldve been in the original considering i bought it new a few months ago for 60 and this version is cheaper and has more stuff they screwed me and other people who had bought it and the dlc they had put up and then they dont even put megaman in the game at all after him being one of the most requested characters to be put in the game and still dont plan on putting him in as dlc.... im just going to go get tekken hybrid and tekken tag tournament 2 namco at least listens to their fans and dont over charge them

I'm not a big fan of this practice of releasing an Ultimate version so soon after the original game, either. I remember when Epic put out Unreal Tournament 2004 only a year and a half after UT2003--they at least had the courtesy to include a $10 rebate for owners of 2003.
Capcom's been overdoing it a bit, not only with the Super/Ultimate Editions, but also the high prices on DLC. If they were going to stick to the $5/each pricing model for their new characters, I guess we're lucky they decided on retail and not DLC. Still, I'm not real happy about it--I may end up grabbing Ultimate MvC3 from Amazon after it's down to $20 just to have the best version, but it won't be a release date purchase.

This is bull. Just because there is 12 new characters does not mean i will buy all of them. If they made it dlc I would have bought two out of the 12. Virgil and Stryder. I should have learned my lesson with street fighter. Like many other people: Ive about had it with capcom. I should have waited for Super Turbo HD Remix Ultimate Arcade Revamp version. (Its the one after the one mentioned by Infectd_Zombie)

Personally, I'd prefer that Capcom releases this as a discounted ($40?) Ultimate edition. They already got $10 for their first two DLC characters, and if they had continued at that rate, then they could've (and would've) pocketed another $60 from gamers from the 12 leaked characters that will be included with the Ultimate edition at $5 a pop. Would I rather wait a few months and get them all at once in a new game for a $20 discount with the option of a slight return from trading in the first game? Yes. Angry gamers: Do your wallets a favor and crunch some numbers before you go on a blind rant at how Capcom only wants money etc, etc, etc.
mattyd629
considering how much they charged for the first 2 dlc characters, it would have cost that much in the end anyways. Noiw they are saying they will release more costumes and modes as dlc for Ultimate? thats just dumb. Put it in the game now jerk offs. This is when game companies take advantage of their fans. Well Im not even a capcom fan, and i wouldnt even look at this game if marvel wasnt involved. They better make any dlc free after putting out two games now
finaljustice43
Really? Stop complaining. If they were to even release the characters alone, at the usual $5 price point, that would be $60 alone. Not counting the stages. Plus we're getting resale to the whole menu system, spectator mode, 2 new costumes per each character all for $40 which we can trade the original MvC3 towards so we can spend even less money. So quit your bitchin'!

I'm a loyal Capcom gamer I've got so many Capcom games it's not funny and yet I never really complained much about the Super edition and all that but this is so ridiculous, not the fact that they announced it as a stand alone, but the fact they came afterwards and said it was a originally a DLC like WTF that's a call for a gamer to put his or her foot down. This is a game we waited for, for over a decade and you do this? This is called playing loyal consumers for fools and putting a big dunce cap on our heads. Capcom needs to seriously be checked. But then again there are two different companies at work here, Marvel needs to be scolded as well I hope both of the two companies have people reading the forums seeing how upset a lot of fans are and have plans to do something to remedy this and soon.

Considering their business practices, I won't be buying ANY Capcom game. I used to really love some of their game franchises, but at this point, I couldn't care less if Capcom never released another game.
Boffo97
They considered one factor... they like money.
Earthquakes and health issues are sad, but they're no excuse to get the loyal customers who already bought your full price game to buy it ALL OVER AGAIN instead of just selling the new content.
Capcom is perpetrating a fraud on the gaming community, and G4 really should be calling them on it.
Like the above poster, I won't buy the next Capcom game when it first come out. I'll wait for it to come out in enhanced edition first, then probably just buy it used so they don't get my money.
brak014
No actually, I think its a terrible idea making us buy another game less than a year after the MvC3 release. Its silly and Capcom has been angering most of their fans for a while now, with the cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3, dating back to the fact that Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition still didnt include the DLC. I'm just about finished with this company, and I know many others are too
Infectd_Z0mbie
WTF?? Capcom has a habit of doing this there is no reason why the shouldn't have been anything other than DLC even after street fighter 4 i didn't learn my lesson next Capcom game I'll just wait for the Super Turbo hyper HD ultra arcade editon to come out
