Resistance Free-To-Play Strategy Game Global Resistance Launches

Posted July 25, 2011 - By Adam Rosenberg

Resistance 3 may not launch until September 6, but you can bring the fight back to the Chimeran invaders right now with Insomniac Games' Global Resistance, which was announced just days ago at Comic-Con International in San Diego. If being a jerk is more your thing, you can alternatively opt to side with the alien forces in the browser-based free-to-play strategy game.

To play, head over to MyResistance.net/global and sign up for an account. You'll then be whisked away to a 2D map of the planet Earth divided up into regions, much like a Risk game board. A series of tutorial exercises then pop up, teaching you how to use the various tools at your disposal to make war with your enemy.

Playing through Global Resistance and completing in-game missions will actually give you a boost when Resistance 3 launches, unlocking things like titles, concept art and... well... that's all I've gotten so far. Don't expect much action -- the whole thing plays like a Facebook game -- but Global Resistance ought to tide you over as you wait for September to arrive. If the "free" factor still isn't enough to draw you in, check out the game's trailer up above.
