How can you not love a cartoon about five lion-shaped fighting spacecraft that can combine together to form a giant, multicolored, sword-wielding robot? THQ is asking that same question with the announcement of an October release for its upcoming Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network release, Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
A press release from the publisher confirms that the action-oriented game will support co-op play for up to five players online and two players offline. At the start of the game, each person selects a lion to control, each of which comes packing unique elemental resistances and special attacks.
Defender of the Universe appears to draw its inspiration from the old TV series, with players stepping into the ongoing battle with King Zarkon. The game will feature clips from the cartoon mixed in alongside the play.
Voltron: Defender of the Universe comes to XBLA and PSN this October, for 800 MS Points and $9.99, respectively. Be sure to check out the trailer at the top of this post.

As a long time Voltron fan, I can say that they are butchering the series with the newest junk. I tried so hard to want to like it, so bad, but it falls short on every aspect. Just like Transformers did by not having Starscream be the purple and grey jet, and Megatron as the gun he holds....

To all the naysayers compared to what nick has done with the franchise this is godly. Oh and i DARE you to try watching that and not see about 3-5 continuity errors or power mistakes/rewrites PER EPISODE if that few even.

Why is being an arcade game a bad thing? That should be a good thing. I mean really, if the developers tried to aim for a sixty dollar title nobody would buy it. Everyone would just think it was just a quick cash in by the developers. Similar to all the recent video game tie ins to comic book-based movies. I mean it's a Voltron game, how good could it possibly be? Just go back and rewatch the cartoons now that your older and you'll see what I mean. Might have been great when were kids but the animation is laughable these days. At a ten dollar price tag the game at least stands a chance of being marginally successful.

I really wanted this to be good. But I was slightly dissapointed when it was announced that it would only be a Arcade title. Then all hope was lost once I've seen the game play footage.
Definite pass...

Yeah, after all the speculation, I gotta say that was overwhelmingly disappointing. Can't say I'm surprised though, it is THQ we're talking about after all. The sad part is that they actually used to make good games. The REAL sad part is now we may never get a truly good Voltron game...

Hmmm gave me the chills in the beginning.......then I saw the game play and now I know why it's only $9.99. It's a time killer and that is all, something to play in between game breaks lol Was hoping for a little bit more. I just hope this doesn't turn someone else off to the idea of a full Voltron game

I like the idea but I think this game is not going to be that great from what I saw.
