Is House of the Dead: Overkill the best game out for Nintendo's Wii? Possibly. It's way up there. The game's Extended Cut that is coming to the PlayStation 3 on October 25 will have some stiffer competition on that front, but the newly revealed changes to the HD re-release suggest that it will be worth your time at the very least.
The key improvements have been detailed on the PlayStation Blog with the help of some handy bullet points. On the gameplay side, the Extended Cut will feature two new levels not included in the Wii game as well as a new crossbow weapon and a baby mutant enemy. There are also two new modes: Hardcore, in which headshots are required to take down each zombie, and Classic, which sends you through the game with the AMS Magnum as your only weapon. In addition, the game's final boss fight has been extended in some way.
Each level will also feature hidden collectibles that in turn unlock bonus materials like comic pages, music, artwork and the like. Cutscenes have been newly enhanced with motion capture work and you'll of course collect Trophies as you progress through the game. All of that is on top of the previously confirmed HD visuals and 3D display mode.
If you played the Wii game, you probably don't need any convincing to accept that House of the Dead: Overkill - Extended Cut is going to be a fun ride. That said, the added appeal of new levels, zombie-killing tools, enemies and the like certainly doesn't hurt.
